Some people can eat pasta and potatoes with no rise in BG's. Others cannot. I would suggest that when you eat these items, you write down what you eat and the amount. Then do a test 2 hrs later (or ever how soon after a meal you eat) and see how it effects you. Also, you may want to do this a couple of times. I can eat oatmeal for breakfast one morning and have a reading two hours later of 85. The next morning having the same breakfast, my reading will be 126. For me, it depends on the amount of activity after eating. Welcome to the group. If you have more questions, just ask. Someone on this list will probably have an answer. Guest guest
Hi Darren, Welcome to the list. I would recommend you getting a copy of " Diabetes Solution " by Dr. Bernstein. He advocates a low carb way of eating/life. I was diagnosed in March w/ Type 2 and immediately got this book. I found out about it on another diabetes list I am on. Since I began following the directions of Dr. Bernstein and cutting out potatos, pastas, refined flour products, and began counting Carb grams, I have dropped 35 pounds and my blood glucose levels have dropped dramatically. I try to stay under 100 grams per day now, but started with only 30 grams while detoxing from the carbs. Good luck with it and once again, welcome to the list. Bleeker Hi. Some things affect individuals differently. You don't " have " to stop eating the things you like. Just eat them with a lot of moderation. If you do " overdo " then exercise is the key to getting the Bg levels back where they should be. __________________________________________________

Guest guest
Rennie, Where is " locally " ? I found it on the shelf at & Noble Booksellers in the USA., (Texas). It lists for about $25.00. You can also order it through Bayer for about $8.00 at www.glucometer.com . Bayer Elite XL is Bernstein's recommended glucometer. I found it extremely informative, easy to read and follow, and it is written by a Type 1 Diabetic. He has researched Diabetes for about 20 years, initially using himself as a research model while he was an engineer. When he couldn't get the medical community to listen to his findings, he went to medical school, got his medical license and then with his new credentials, began to publish his findiings. Using the directions from his book, this, and one other email list, I have dropped my BG's from an average of 170-180 to an average of 105 and dropped 30-35 lbs with no medication. Your mileage may vary of course though. Sweltering in Ft. Worth, Bleeker Re: Hi. New to the group > > , hello-- > > Interesting. Guest guest
, Locally for me is central CT. & Noble could not even order it for me since their distributor doesn't carry the line. They did tell me about Bernstein's newer book becoming available. Other stores told me no, too. My local health food stores have all but dropped books. Interesting the differences in regions with same company. His story sounds amazing. I'm eager to read the book. And thanks a bunch for the cheaper resource!!
