Guest guest
Cutting back on students was only the tip of the iceberg. Stanford halted their association with all PPO's, and HMO's. Stanford is taking only private paying patients. It's their way of protesting the low reimbursement rates by government, and all health insurance orgainzations. Stanford pays their doctors top dollar, as well as their nurses, and support staff. Stanford just went through a 3 month strike with their nurses, and it would appear as if with less patients, they will need less nurses, and support staff. When a Stanford medical researcher gets a grant, the Univerisity was taking 74% off the top to cover their overhead. Believe me, 50% off the top is standard for most research grants. Some times when you figure out that research is slow, you will figure out that if your employer is taking 50 - 74% off the top to cover their overhead, it doesn't leave much to the researcher. If the researcher doesn't bring in the Federal grant money, then the person is known as an ex-researcher. It's pretty bad the way that your tax dollar is being used.
