Guest guest
Is there a certain number that would constitute a low? Based on the lowest normal BG being 50 I have never had that kinda low but I feel the effects if I go below 80 actually so am I having a low based on my own blood BG's? I'm a bit confused. The cutoff number is actually 65 or below for a low and should be treated with glucose tabs, its faster than food. you feel low at 80 because your body is not yet used to the lower numbers, to combat this, take 1/2 a glucose tab when you feel low, it will only raise your bg 10 points, but your body will adjust nicely, just keep getting those numbers down, and you will at some point not feel a thing at 80. It takes time. When I first started coming down i felt low at 120!!!, but now I can go to 60 before I feel anything. carol

When I was on medication and would go in the 60's, I knew I was having a low. Since I'm off medication, the lowest I have been aware of has been 76 and that was morning fasting. It was no problem for me. Eunice

Guest guest
Thanks I've only been that low (below 75) once and basically I just feel irritable when I get below 80, lol So that just might be me being a meenie, lol I don't like to blame but so much on this Dis-Ease because I'm not looking for a crutch, but I'll keep this in mind. I don't carry any glucose tablets I just carry the little candy and sugar packs I read somewhere. astrocarly@... on 03/29/2001 01:09:57 PM Please respond to diabetes To: diabetes cc: Subject: Re: Another Question about Lows In a message dated 03/29/2001 1:03:57 PM Eastern Standard Time, pmuhamma@... writes: Is there a certain number that would constitute a low? Guest guest
Another Question about Lows : Is there a certain number that would constitute a low? Based on the lowest : normal BG being 50 I have never had that kinda low but I feel the effects : if I go below 80 actually so am I having a low based on my own blood BG's? : Hi I agree with that. Below 90 , I have a headache, begin to shake and sweat drip from my forehead. I just can't imagine what would be a low of under 50. Also when over 180, I feel sleepy ( fall asleep sitting here in front of the computer) and can't concentrate enough to follow a simple conversation or read. I guess it all depend on our own physical shape? I want to share that since I've been diagnosed, March 6, I lost 10 pounds. I stopped smoking one year ago and since then, I gained a lot of pounds. Still a lot to go but it's a beginning. It was very hard to keep up on low carb yesterday as I was at a meeting and for lunch they had a buffet of salads ( No greenery) , sandwiches and a dozen of different desserts. The only thing I could eat were cubes of cheese and coffee but I did it. I think that if I succeeded in stopping smoking, I can lose all that weight and maintain my bg within normal figures. Guest guest
congratulations on your weight loss and you did better than I did at my meeting today. I did cut the sandwich in half take it apart and pull out all the 'dough' of the roll leaving me with a shell so to speak. I feel fine. I also just fall right asleep with I go over 180 which isn't often but sometimes I do. I just get irritable and I will say as soon as it comes back up a bit I calm down, lol lol My daughter always asks - " Mom is this your sweet blood acting up " " J et D " on 03/29/2001 03:04:03 PM Please respond to diabetes To: <diabetes > cc: Subject: Re: Another Question about Lows Another Question about Lows : Is there a certain number that would constitute a low? Guest guest
I'm way past the look of strangers, I'd rather see them looking like " what the " then sitting around discussing what a nice person I was because I'm DEAD *smile* You can even just eat the sandwich open faced. I know the low carbers are throwing stones right now but we all still gotta live. People around me who had diabete ( both grandmothers) were not taking care much eating anything and lived until 78 and 83 so I guess I still have a good 40 years to learn. As for low carbers...it's the easier way to go for me right now, at least until I meet with the dietician April 24. Until then, I wouldn't be able to maintain normal readings if I weren't on it. It offers a great way to keep your weight as well as your BG's under control.
