It is done by your doctor/health care provider. I'm surprised your doctor/provider did not do this test when you were diagnosed. Guest guest
Hi Ann- looks like you sent these at 8 am and they just came through at 1 pm est. Maybe yahoo is slow today. I have never been below 85. Don't you feel sick at 20-30? I thought people passed out at that low! What was your hbA1c when you were diagnosed? In feb mine was 11.7 which means an average blood sugar of 291 (awfull!!). I went on Glucophage 1000mg a day but it made me sick. So I stopped it and started eating less starches and on 4/20 I had another hbA1c test and it came back 6.7 (average bs of 141) so I am doing better. I think my next one should be much better because I wake up at 105 and rarely go over 140 with my meals. I have also lost about 35-40 lbs since feb 16. My problem is that I don't exercise much. I have a treadmill but I seem to have a hard time making myself use it. You are inspiring me to get back on the thing. I am interested in the socks you have. Are they very thick though? I don't like super thick socks and they would make my walking shoes too tight. If you have the website could you send it to me? Thanks- I am sort of surprised that the book from your insurance company says 240 is the magic number. IMO that is way high! <<Well I responded to this once but it did not seem to go in the que so I'm doing so again. I use a Glucometer XL from Bayer. I am ususally farily steady in the 85 to 130 range. My Dr. wants me below 200 to be safe although my diabetes eduction book from my insurance company uses 240 as the magic number. I find my numbers are usually higher in the morning than at night. Also, I wanted to let everyone know about the RX comfort socks. Yesterday I got a blister because I used socks on the treadmill instead of the special running shoes my hubby bought for me. I carefully opened it up and drained it according to health guidelines. I later put on a pair of RX comfort socks. The thing is all healed up today. I don't know if the socks did it or the carefuly draining or a combination thereof. However, since foot problems seem to be a cause of concern for most diabetics I thought I would mention that I have had a favorable experience using these socks. They are very reasonable when ordered from the internet. I went to Healthy Legs and ordered some more last night (first pair I bought locally and was much more costly). I wear a small and they only come in white but they look OK with sneakers so what the heck. I have also found that Eddy's no sugar added ice cream tastes great -- especially the chocolate fudge and that Hershey's makes a syrup with 50% less sugar as well. This usually takes care of my choc fix. Thanks for all the encouragement. Hopefully this time the message will go through. If the other one is lingering out there. You will see two:-) Sorry Ann>>

Been a week to the day that diagnosed. I was drinking Coke like some people drink water. Now I drink water like I used to drink Coke. I too long for the days of old. Just had my first Crystal Light Lemonade today since the early 90s when I still lived with my parents. My mom loved the stuff and I have to admitt I did too. A week without Coke, any fried food or whole milk and I'm still alive?! Amazing! Joe H.

Guest guest
It is a pretty important test to do and can tell you more then just the bs tests you do yourself. Did the dr draw blood from your arm or just do a finger test? <<Hi Ann, The HbA1C is the test used to monitor the long term blood sugar. Guest guest
If he took blood from your arm then he probably did the hbA1c test- call and ask! ---------- To: diabetes Subject: Re: Newely diagnosed diabetic Date: Sat, Jun 23, 2001, 5:44 PM > It is a pretty important test to do and can tell you more then just the bs > tests you do yourself. A week later he sent me to have another set run to see if there really was a problem and that's when he confirmed the diagnosis. These were taken from my left arm.
