Guest guest
Jackie It makes be feel so very sad that your husband has to go through this agony!! Must be unbearable for you as well... When I was in for my liver operation, I was introduced to another wife who was sitting at hubby's bedside!! Then, one of the days, I wanted to step into the room and talk to them; but, I heard the hubby groaning so loudly from the pain of the ascities and thought better of bothering them. Sadly for his sake, it made me feel sooo fortunate because I couldn't even really bitch about pain after the big surgery. Gloria ________________________________ His meld score is 34 and they want to keep him here. Hopefully another liver will come along soon. He is 2nd on the list, the back-up for #1. The same thing happened with my husband. He is still at the top and that means it shouldn't be too long. What MELD score is he now?
Guest guest
If he doesn't eat, they may place a feeding tube through his nose or into the stomach from the side. If you tell him that, he might be willing to try or he might refuse any nourishment at all. If he is able to drink something, they might try to replace some of the food with a vitamin supplement, like Ensure. I would talk with the dietician on his floor. The doctor should know that he isn't eatting. A patient has a right to refuse care and what they eat is included in that. You are doing fine...if he refuses, there isn't much anyone can do. They won't place the feeding tube in either, if he refuses that.
