Guest guest
Some messages from 9-11-01. This is a reposting from the 1 year anniversary. Andy Sept. 11, 2001-2:32 AM (Eastern Time) And here's a little birthday poem... Yes, it's belated, but never too late, To wish happy birthday to someone so great. So get out your jogging shoes, and run really fast, Cause here comes a dog, and he's after your a-S! Happy Birthday, Wayne!!!!!! Jeanne 9:32 AM Hey phillip, Was just getting the announcement of the WTC bldgs, and hoping that you were no where near that situation. OMG, and I was worrying about the IMF/WTO meeting here next month in DC. I hope you're OK and getting some sleep, de-flea'ed and working out again. Dianne 9:57 AM I'm four miles north of the WTC. The pentagon was hit as well. But I will probably have a hard time getting out. 9:59 am Subject: Les, Phil, (G & P) Are you all there? Are you OK? Please email us..... 9:59 AM Dianne, , works downtown in that area. I have not been able to raise him. Cell phones here in NY are overwhelmed and the system is down. Les 10:16 AM They have shut down NY>.Only way to get out is on foot. The Pentagon was hit, yes. And something suspicious going on at the White HOuse. The Northern Trade Center Building completely collapsed about 15 minutes ago. My family is all accounted for. I am from NY. My prayers are with all of you who may have had someone on one of the planes or on the ground. This is a very sad day. My stomach is in knots. I feel on the verge of tears..... I pray my BFL family is all ok... Peace, M. 9:28 AM Yeah, Washington has become a war zone as well. Everyone is driving like wild hoodoos trying to get out. My building was evacuated and man is it crazy here. Well, gonna try my luck at riding through this madness. See ya, hopefully tomorrow. The sky is falling. Dianne 10:26 AM I'm ok... Not sure how I will get home. I'm OK. 10:35 AM I'm ok but stuck. I'm ok. I work mid-town. I'll keep in touch as I can. P 10:41 AM Phil, I'm glad you're okay. Can you go to the chat room at bfl? I'll meet you there. Les 10:54 AM I hear you . I am going to try to go eat now and hope I can keep the food down. This is scary, but we'll get through this somehow. Stay safe and hug your family and friends. Andyman 11:03 AM On this day of terrorist activity, I pray you all are alright and that your families are alright. God bless you all Karren Ziqena in Toronto 11:36 AM Thank GOD you're OK ... I'm scared as hell right now. The company I work for is Israeli owned (but we're in the states), and, it's a little uncomfortable at work right now... I'm in southern New Jersey, but some funny business is going on right across the river in Philly. I hope and pray everyone is OK... I feel queasy hearing this stuff on the news... - Wayne From: muscleprincess@h... Date: Tue Sep 11, 2001 12:22 am Subject: God be with everyone of us. 12:59 AM Probably won't get 6 meals in today. Don't feel too much like eating. It's a sad day here in DC, NY and the US as a whole. Dianne 1:06 AM oh phillip. i am so glad you are ok! just getting on this am, have friends in wtc. have reached one, and is ok. please stay safe. my prayers are with you. fond regards, lee From: " Lana " <warmfuzzies@g...> Date: Tue Sep 11, 2001 12:16 pm Subject: Re: BFL doesn't seem so important today amen dianne.. I feel like shit frankly. Can't eat, can't think. Seems petty to go to the gym. From: Millman <phillip_millman@y...> Date: Tue Sep 11, 2001 1:21 pm Subject: Re: BFL doesn't seem so important today True. I don't feel like working out tonight. 2:04 PM So the terrorists win? Not here. I feel for the families; the loss of life and destruction today is tragic. But we can't shut down. We need to continue on so that the American dream continues and so we can hunt down the cowardly bastards that did this and open a whole can of whoop ass on those responsible, lest they think they can do it again. Don't tread on me. Brett (used to pummel bullies who picked on my friends, the attitude persists) 2:05 PM Glad to hear you are doing ok. Thoughts and prayers going out to the families who have lost loved ones. Leigh fl From: " " <michellemonroe@b...> Date: Tue Sep 11, 2001 2:35 pm Subject: Prayers Please pray that our leaders have the strength to make the appropriate decisions, whatever that might be. Also, keep our military personnel in your hearts as they are almost certainly headed into a nasty war. My prayers go out to everyone because this event is going to change all of our lives. 2:50 PM Re: Palestinians are celebrating. Sick, isn't MP? My daughters saw that on TV earlier. It is so sad that any human being can " celebrate " the death of another. Really sad that the little children are out there celebrating and they don't even truly understand what it is they are celebrating. I live 3 miles away from the biggest U.S. Air Force Base on the west coast. Kinda a scary thought. Didn't go for my regular BFL run this morning. Just staying home and praying for all the families involved and America as a whole. Donna H. 3:20 PM Absolutely not! I am going to do my upper body workout tonight as usual and it is likely that I will have some extra adrenaline so I might as well take advantage of it. Besides, it's times like this that we need to take better care of ourselves. I've always found in times of tragedy that a workout makes me feel better. Sometimes, it is just hard getting started, but do it anyway. It helps you to forget these things if only for a moment. Andyman 3:44 pm Holy cow. What an amazing story. For some reason driving up to NY from DC will never be the same. How I cherished the sight of the twin towers (I knew I was almost there). I keep humming subconsciously the song, " it's the end of the world as we know it " ...but I don't feel good. Reports from DC: state of emergency here. The streets are almost cleared out--it's creepy. The smoke it still pouring from the Pentagon, my friend accross the river has eye-view. Fighter planes are doing fly-bys--the sonic booms are freaking people out (as you can imagine). I feel like I'm somewhere else. This feels surreal. Dianne 4:00 PM Hello All, Please take the time, even us queasy one to get out and give blood. The Red Cross site is overloaded but there must be something being mobilized in your areas to get blood. -jennifer 4:51 PM On a sadder note, I must also offer my prayers and support to all affected by today's devastating events. I did in fact do my workout this morning, tears streaming down my face along with the sweat. Please everyone remember to take care of themselves. Keeping yourselves physically in tune will make you more able to cope mentally and emotionally, and be more able to offer support to others, which every one here already does so well. Take care all, Gayle in MT 5:01 pm Just wanted to tell people if you've heard anything about a gas shortage and prices going up, it is not true. Here in Columbia, the streets are blocked with many people trying to get into gas stations to buy gas. You wouldn't believe the lines! This is ridiculous. This panic is going to cause the price to increase and a price increase in gas should be the least of our worries today. Terrorists love seeing us panic so please, please don't buy gas unless you really need it. Go give blood instead if you can. Andyman 5:24 pm and all... If I might add this bit. If you have time off tomorrow, or if you're luckyenough to not have a regular office job like me. You may volunteer to helpout at your local blood drives. I called around and found out there's onetomorrow at a tiny town near me. They are going to be overwhelmed so I volunteered to help. Since I used to work in the media, I believe I'm goingto be handling all the newspapers, TV crews, etc. If nothing else, you can pass out cookies, talk to grieving people etc. BTW, fyi, a 3rd building just went down in NYC. 25 stories have fallen. I'm sure we can be happy of one thing, no one was probably there. Lana 6:33 pm hmmm, still $1.41-$1.49 for regular, Lori just put $58 worth in the burb. Why in the hell should gas go up? Bummer if you live in an area where this gouging will happen. Question - is this a national Shell Oil policy? Here in SLC, it's business as usual, kind of. Everyone is glued to their TVs and calling the airport to offer assistance to stranded travelers and packing the bloodbanks (seems to be common nationwide) but street traffic is about the same, a friend and I went and test drove a couple trucks (we had set this up a couple days ago). We even put gas in one of the trucks...no lines, $1.49. As our UT Governor stated earlier, as tragic as this seems right now, it will surely get deeply personal to each of us as the days wear on. My heart goes out to all affected, especially those suffering lost loved ones. Brett From: " " <michellemonroe@b...> Date: Tue Sep 11, 2001 8:19 pm Subject: RE: Re: Stop spreading rumors about gas going up (non-BFL) Please read Wish I could say the same. My hubby came home at 3pm and has to go back in at 11pm to work until 3pm tomorrow. Apparently, there's hightened security in ALL cities because of the expected retaliation against anyone who even resembles the people who are expected of the attacks. Lana, has your husband been called out too? I'm not sure how big your actual town is, but being so close to KC I'd think they'd at least have all public safety personnel ready to go. 8:25 pm ... Thank you for thinking of me. I was wondering how this was going to effect you and your husband. We are about 2 hours from KC, and they seem to have it under control right now. Many restrictions are in effect there now. We have no mutual aid with KC, but if called, I'm sure our department would send help. I guess it pays to live in a small town sometimes. Lana 11:34 pm Subject: WTC from NJ I use to see those two beauties every morning and evening. They looked like bars of gold at sunset on a clear night. http://www.geocities.com/jimbayne_2000/wtc.html The world has some sick people.... what have they accomplished? I am neither scared of them nor going to convert my religion or beliefs for them. I just know that anyone that thinks they are doing this for their God has no idea who or what God really is or what it stands for. Jim in NJ 12:27 AM I'm definitely grateful for my small town right now. Apparently, people in Lexington are buying out the Wal-Marts and several gas stations have actually run out of gas because so many people are filling up. Our biggest concerns right now are Fort Knox and an army depot in Richmond, KY which has the largest supply of nerve gas in the country. My husband is losing several officers to national guard duty and is close to patrolling a city of 27,000 people with only two officers per shift. Unfortunately, many officers are also volunteer firefighters and paramedics and were ready to take off to NY tonight to help out, but city officials refused to let them. They're afraid that all hell's going to break loose here and we'll have no one to protect OUR city. People act crazy when things like this happen. Still doesn't seem real. 8:50 AM Yesterday's act of war on thousands of innocent Americans has left us all reeling and numb. It was impossible to work yesterday -- all I could think about was being with my children, and how unimportant the everyday little stresses of life are in the scheme of things. I pray for the families of those lost. And so many heroes who rushed in to their death to try to save others. It's hard to muster up the energy to go work out, get the kids ready for school, get ready for work, in fact just to go about the everyday routine of life. We must make a decision to be strong, to help the victims where/when we can, and make our country a safer place for our children. How to do that isn't obvious to me right now, but as these events unfold over time, I believe the answers will come. God bless the victims, their families, and the rescue/medical workers. All of you take care, Jeanne 9:29 AM I sat in bed watching the news eating OREOS!!!! Oh man, I needed Brett to save me by eating them for me. I don't even like Oreos, but I just did some major emotional eating. then when i finally did crash I woke up in the middle of the night with severe stomach cramps. Bummer. So i got up this am and did a HIIT followed my some push ups and modified pull-ups. I feel better today. On my way into work (I ride my bike so I don't care how much gas costs, sorry ( ) it was like the gustapo. They were checking IDs, traffic backed up as far as the eye could see. I love living in DC MEtro area!!! They have all entrances but 1 leading to each gov't bldg blocked, and I mean rows of jersy walls with track-trailers parked sideways. I saw some people just parking thier cars illegally and walking. It is like a war zone here. Yesterday, there were jet fighters doing fly-bys and you could actually see people doing a cringy-squat as the planes went overhead, afraid that it was another plane about to plunge. Hopefully this is over..or is it just beginning?!!? Hmmmmm. Dianne 9:55 AM I did upper body workout last night (in spite of still being sore) and felt much better afterwords. However, I slept very poorly. I don't think anyone feels like working today, but we have to go on. I think the uncertainty of what is going to happen next is creating a lot of anxiety. I'm not sure how to deal with that. The only answer I have is to try to keep doing what I would normally do. Andyman 10:31 AM I didn't work out. I didn't eat well this morning. I actually had a chocolate chip muffin. I slept poorly. But I went to work and I will work out tonight. My friends who were there described a war zone. It is a war zone and I'm going to go on as if the US is at war because we ARE! 11:25 AM Reverend Reality, I'll take a wild guess and assume nobody on this list cares to hear your warped views of spirituality anymore (I for one do not). Somehow I think your " holy than thou, America had it coming " attitude would be a whole lot different had you lost a loved one yesterday. You'd make a lot more friends here if you'd just learn to keep your opinions to yourself and stop cramming your beliefs (BFL or otherwise related) down everyone else's throat when they ask you over and over to knock it off. You give Christians a bad name. 1:37 PM hi, i mentioned in a post yesterday about working in the wtc in 99 and concern for some work collegues. i am happy to report 2 things, i've been able to confirm the daycare center next door in the wtc plaza was successfully evacuated and the folks i worked with made it out of the 28th floor. thought i'd share this. regards, lee 3:02 PM Unfortunately, this tragedy does not just affect those living in DC and New York. I was up until 4 AM this morning waiting to hear from a close friend of mine who works on the 22nd floor of the World Trade Center. I finally received a phone call at 3:59 AM (it will forever stick in my memory) that he was OK. He was evacuated from the building when the first plane struck, but was unable to contact anyone or return home until very late in the evening. I'm an emotional wreck, and just pray that we survive this. - Wayne 5:09 PM Please contact your local radio stations and TV stations to ask people to come outside at 9pm EST time and light a candle across this great nation for those people who lost their lives in this terrorist act, the brave men and women of our police departments and fire departments who lost their lives trying to rescue those caught in the destruction, and for the rest of us to show the world that this country stands united against people who use terrorism. Reaffirm your commitment to make terrorism a crime against all humanity and those who seek peace. I will be out side with my candle, please be there too! - Wayne " While the storm clouds gather far across the sea, Let us swear allegiance to a land that's free, Let us all be grateful for a land so fair, As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer. " God Bless America, Land that I love. Stand beside her, and guide her Thru the night with a light from above. From the mountains, to the prairies, To the oceans, white with foam God bless America, My home sweet home.
Guest guest
I remember...do you? Five years ago... do you remember? will you ever forget? It was a day of worsts and bests... a day of unimaginable cruelty.... a day of extreme inhumanity and cowardice... and yet... a day of bravery and courage... a day of love and respect... a day when we showed the world what it means to be an American... We must remain vigilant and unyielding in the face of evil... or else, we have let evil succeed... I remember....and I always will.... Do you? Will you? > > Some messages from 9-11-01. Guest guest
All, I'm that in Andy's message and the last 5 years have been really difficult both on a personal and BFL level. On 9-11, I was on a trading floor in mid-town Manhattan when a trader yelled " Has anyone heard of a plane hitting the WTC? " We all thought it was a small Cessna type plane had accidently. 15 minutes latter our bloomberg terminals were getting messages from the Cantor Fitzgerald folks scared out of their minds and the TV monitors on the floor started showing the damage to the WTC and the second plane hitting. All people that I received messages from died. One person asked me to tell his wife that he loved her and that he prayed that he would get out alive because phones stopped. I gave that last message to her. I attended 5 funerals due to 9/11. I became seriously depressed (although 9-11 was not the beginning of the depression. It made it worse). I got laid off from my job in 3/02 and moved to the Washington DC area for a job at half the money. I stopped working out and my eating went down the tubes. By 5/04, my wife kicked me out of the house, my job was in trouble and I weighed 275 lbs up from 210 from my BFL days. I knew I needed help. I got the professional help that I needed and switched to a government job. My life has done a completed 180. My job is low stress and reasonable hours. My marriage to my my wife is the strongest its been in years. A week ago last Saturday we celebrated 16 years. My weight has dropped to 225 (from a 46 waist to 39). I plan on starting a Challenge after the Jewish holidays and get back into fitness. I plan to focus on the " core " muscle groups to help with my back. I'm glad to see some of the " old " timers still around. P.S. Can I still keep the title the Dumbbell Wrangler? --- Andy wrote: > Some messages from 9-11-01.
