I just found this site yesterday, so I have many questions. My dad was diagnosed

with cirrhosis in July, 2008. In January of this year, he started with stage 3

kidney disease, which I feel confident is hepatorenal syndrome, since the doctor

told us that there is nothing wrong physically with his kidneys, just in how

they work with the liver. He also said that if he were eligible for a liver

transplant, that would cure the kidney problem. When asked if it was hepatorenal

syndrome, he just said that it would be a death sentence for him to call it

that, and he wasn't ready to do that yet. He has had paracentesis done 7 times

since the first of the year, with the highest amount taken out being 5.5 liters.

He also has congestive heart failure. About 2 months ago, his legs started

swelling tremendously, and even with the Lasix at the highest amount they want

to give him, they won't go down. He can't take spironolactone because they think

he's allergic to it. Now, his leg is weeping fluid on the lower part of his leg

from little red spots. Does anyone know what this is? I assume it's because

there's too much fluid in there and it needs to come out. Someone told me to

have him keep his legs elevated, but he can't breathe in a reclining position or

having his legs out in front of him on a recliner. Is this something that occurs

in the final stages of cirrhosis? I'm clueless. Thanks in advance for any and

all help.
