Guest guest
I work at home however, fly about 50% of the other time for work. My sensitivity has gotten worse and now it is including gestures even though there is no sound. For example, just seeing others chew gum (whether their mouth is open or not) drives me insane. Football quarterbacks scrapping their fingers across their mouth as they prepare for a play - crazy. Does this mean I have more of an issues than just 4S? Thoughts? Guest guest
I think many of us experience this. I experience this with my dogs. The sound of them licking their paws drives me mad but seeing them even without hearing them now has the same effect on me. But, it wasn't always that way. It only came after years of having the sound bother me. Therefore, I think I conditioned my brain to think that way. I also have OCD and therefore have tendencies to obsess about things. Going from just the sound to then visual triggers is where I think this condition takes a psychological turn. We know that certain sounds bother us in a negative manner and because it has such a profound effect on us, I think we start to look at the cause of it. We then relate our negative experience with the sound of chewing gum to the person chewing it regardless of whether we can hear it or not. This is something I think CBT can really help with, to stop those thoughts before they become wired in your brain. Kinda reminds me of the old riddle... 'if a tree falls in the forest and nobody is around to hear it, does it make a sound'? > > I work at home however, fly about 50% of the other time for work.
