Hi ! I know exactly who you are....you are in MANY of the videos right??

I one day would LOVE to be Taebo Certified....I am AFAA kickboxing

certified....but it's just NOT Taebo! Wow...Houston HUH? Well...2000 was when

I was " introduced " to Taebo so I hadn't found the love for it yet to desire

becoming certified. Yes...I am from the Houston area ((Super HOT Texas)) and I

am bummed that it is no longer there. I have been to Joe's classes on several

occasions (did you know Joe?). He now teaches the type of kickboxing that I

teach through a national gym chain.

Thanks for your post.....look forward to hearing from you.

Hi! My name is and I am a certified Tae Bo Instructor :)

Actually, I first got certified at the Houston Tae Bo Center back in

the summer of 2000 (didn't you say that you were from Houston? ).

I'm currently living in andria, VA and am teaching at some gyms

around here. I just got a full time job at the fitness center in the

Justice Department in Washington DC, so now I'm teaching down there

as well. Trying to get all those lawyers in shape..LOL! Actually,

some of them are a riot to teach...you can totally see them imagining

the people they are prosecuting..LOL!

I've enjoyed reading your posts :) I don't get to post very often,

but try to lurk when I can! Let me know if you ever have any

questions :)

Yes, I am in a few of the videos :) You should definitely look into

going to one of the Tae Bo certifications! It's an experience that

will totally change you :) So, do you incorporate a lot of Tae Bo

into your kickboxing classes? You would really love the Tae Bo

Camp..especially since you already have the Kickboxing experience :)

I think I remember Joe! I wondered what happened to all the Tae Bo

Instructors who taught at the Houston Center!

Glad you found this group! Lots of great new people have joined

lately! Looks like the group is getting active again :) Wish I had

more time to post!

Hey . I don't remember which video specifically you were in....but I

remember you in a white baseball type cap when the camera zoomed in on you...am

I right? Wow....how did you get so lucky to be a part of the group for the

video shooting. I always wondered how those got chosen. I would think if word

got out they were recording a video...the lines would be SO long to get in. How

does that work??? Did you travel all that way to be a part of the video

recordings? Gosh...many questions huh??

Joe...you may remember him. He is a very sweet guy. Everytime I took his class

he had a bandanna on his head. I remembered I was crawling out of the building

when I first took his class because of the NO " walk it outs " . But, it was

great. I Ultimately would have been elated if would have been the one

teaching...but sadly I missed his visit to that location 3 days prior to the

class I had taken. I would love to one day meet and thank for what he has

done for me personally!

As far as me teaching. I would LOVE to have the label " Taebo " behind my

kickboxing status...but geographically I am so challenged and find it hard to

think of traveling. I have a 5 and 3 year old and stay home full time....so

child care is an issue with me for a time frame that long. Don't get me

wrong...I WILL ONE DAY get certified to teach Taebo....but I have to wait a

while. So...for the time being I am content with teaching what I teach. What I

teach is a REALLY fancy kickboxing. Kinda frustrating though. It's not

beginner user friendly. Have you heard of Turbokick? That's what I teach.

It's fun....but the choreography is NOT easy to follow at all. In fact...Joe

and I were in the corner venting at one of our training classes saying this is

not an easy format to teach across the board to anybody. ONLY the most

coordinated type of person can handle this type of class. I DID tell Joe...that

if the type of kickboxing we teach was the FIRST taste of kickboxing I was

introduced to I would NEVER have continued. Really! In fact when I first took

the training class...I just stopped and starred at the others. I then left and

went home crying...telling my husband that there is NO way I can teach

this....if I can't even do it! That is what I like about Taebo. It's so

across the board user friendly and do-able at your own pace. I enjoy teaching

but in the same respect...I feel like I have turned my back on Taebo because I

teach another form of kickboxing. Is that a safe thing to beat myself up

about??? Geez...the guilt has set in! As far as me incorporating Taebo into my

workouts...I don't know if I can say that without it hindering myself can I?

Anyhoo...when I do a familiar move of Taebo...I usually say we are going to

" Blanks it now " . The participants find a LOT of comfort with that and

they are excited!

Anyhoo...I am sorry so long. Thanks for your time. And by the way....your

pictures are AWESOME on the taebofans.com before and afters. I am excited that

I was just added to Amy's list of " guest " before and afters. ((Thanks again

AMY!))

In his love--

Yeah, I am in a white baseball hat in one of the workouts :) Not sure

which one that is...LOL! I'm also in the Basic and Advanced in the

Live 4 pack and a few others! Back when they did the first set of

videos..you just had to sign up through the Tae Bo website and you

could be in the videos! I went the first time by myself in November

of 1999 and then in the Spring of 2000 (I think those are the dates) a

bunch of us from this group actually went out and were in some more

video shoots :) It was so much fun! Yes, we did have to travel to

LA! They did the video shoots at a studio in Burbank...I think it

was the NBC Studio..can't remember :) I wish they were doing that

this time, but this time around you actually have to be picked for the

videos. At least that's what they told us as instructors. I figure

they are picking people from the LA area and then the people they

choose for the infomercial :) We really need to organize another Tae

Bo trip out to LA! I'm thinking we should do it this Fall when they

have Customer Appreciation :) They usually do that in the beginning

of October!

> but sadly I

Oh, that stinks that you missed by 3 days!

>Have you heard of Turbokick? That's what I teach. It's

fun....but the choreography is NOT easy to follow at all.

Actually, I am certified Gold to teach Turbokick :) (So are Jen and

Toni...all 3 of us went to the training together in March I think?

Pretty cool that all 3 of us that are Tae Bo Instructors certified

Gold...says a lot about our Tae Bo training :) Anyway, I haven't

actually started teaching it yet, although I do want to. I have ALL

the workouts..LOL! I just need to sit down and learn them! Do you

teach the basic layers when you first start teaching it? That's one

of the things I like about Turbokick..you can keep adding on the

layers to make it more challenging! So, no I don't think you should

beat yourself up about training in another format :) I figure it just

makes you more versatile! Realistically, I don't know how much longer

I can continue to afford paying the money to recertify in Tae Bo...it

costs $300 just to recertify and you have to fly out to LA...so that

doesn't include the cost of airfare, hotel, rental car, food,

etc....it really ends up being closer to $1000 when all is said and

done. And, I just don't know if I can do that EVERY year. We'll see!

So, for me....getting certified in other formats just gives me some

variety. I've been teaching Tae Bo for 2 years and I absolutely love

it, but it's nice to have other options as well :) Plus, Turbo Kick

gives me a lot of ideas that I use in my Tae Bo classes as well :)

Although, that doesn't really work in reverse since you can't really

do Tae Bo in Turbo Kick, huh? But, I really like Turbo Kick's program

and the way the Company is run :) Do you teach at 24 Hr Fitness? In

LA..that's where Turbokick is really big! Unfortunately, we don't

have any 24 Hour Fitness' around here and Turbokick hasn't really

taken off yet on the East Coast. But, I think it will. I'm hearing

more and more about it and they are holding more certifications around

here. So, I really need to get off my butt and learn the

choreography. But, I also teach Body Pump and Rep Reebok, which are

alos pre-choreographed..so I have to memorize that stuff as well :)

Actually, Toni (another Tae Bo Instructor who occasionlly posts to

this list) just told me she just got a Turbo Kick Class at a gym in

Richmond! So, I can't wait to hear how she does with it :) I'm

anxious to teach it to my students who have taken Tae Bo from me to

see how they like it compared to Tae Bo :)

That's awesome that you are on Amy's page now :) Your story is very

inspirational :)

Have a great day :)

Yup, they were at the NBC Studios.

WOW!!!!!! You have to be picked now?!?!?!?!

I hope to be able to make it. I should be able to take off time by then. I

m sure if I needed a day off before then, they wouldn't have a problem. But

hopefully I'll have some vacation time accumulated by then. It would be so

much fun.

Yes, that is expensive for you out of towners, getting certified each year.

I could see every couple of years having to be re-certified.

GLYSDI,

Get well soon Jerry--we miss you!!!!!

Cool....that you teach Turbokick too! Comparing it to Taebo....I like Taebo

better ((of course)). I just think Turbokick is too dancy and much less

realistic when it comes to kickboxing and martial arts. The one thing I really

don't like is that it's all pre-choreographed and you have to MEMORIZE the

rounds to teach them. I feel like a marionette (sp??) up on stage while

teaching.... I try to change some things but find that I go into " auto pilot " .

As far as where I teach....I did have a regular class at 24 Hr Fitness (yes I

did teach there)...but now I have gone more towards a family friendly atmosphere

to teach. I teach at the YMCA. I have been told I am the MOST challenging

kickboxing class they have ever taken at both 24 Hr and the Y. I do the MOST

advanced layering simply because I feel it's the best workout....and you tend to

not get bored as easily. I do give the option to keep it to the simple stuff

but if a person feels confident enough to add that extra

layer...more power to them....that's just going to help them with the

coordination. What I really DO like about Turbokick is the " Turbo " section.

It's AWESOME! Talk about a second wind after that!!! Wooh! I have almost all

the rounds myself BUT the only ones I have memorized are Round 2, 6, and 11. I

do find a LOT of the music WAY too rappy and if I can't enjoy the music...I

can't teach to it. So...I usually plug other sections into my same ol' music

from those rounds I do like. Okay...enough about Turbokick. That's just

awesome that you are a variety go getter girl!

I am certified to teach Rep Reebok and Reebok Core but I don't find those all

that amusing to do. I am NOT a weight training kinda person. I like cardio

with the incorporated strength training in it. Make since???

Anyhoo...thanks so much for lending an ear.

Welcome to the group!!

It sounds like your husband is far too young to be facing this and away too much

for you and your children.  My heart goes out to you.  I'm going to try very

hard not to say anything about medical insurance.  I am Canadian and we simply

do not face what you are.

The amount of time that was predicted??  I was given 6 mos to a year with my

liver cancer.  However, as I just posted, there is no way that anyone could see

that.  I'm simply not sick yet.  I am just soo grateful to be granted this

extra time.  By the way, when I pushed my Dr to give me a time frame, I knew

very well that it was a fictitious figure.  I think I just needed to hear it,

in order to push myself to get my affairs in order.

The term End Stage Liver Disease is such a big bucket!  I was confirmed as

reaching that back in the beginning of 2009, just before doing another treatment

for Hep C.  In April 2010, I had a liver resection to take care of 2 tumors.

I was grateful that there was still enough liver that wasn't cirrhotic, that

they could operate.  However, in my case, the cirrhosis had carried on into

cancer.

I tell anyone that wants to know, that I'm busy getting rid of my business and

then I fully intend to buy myself a really comfortable lounge chair.  I live in

my RV.  I will have to put that lounge chair out under my awning because I'm a

redhead and entirely unable to be in the sun.  But, my dream is to do exactly

that, while I listen to Yanni music.  Past that the only other thing that must

happen, is to be able to go to a Yanni concert.  I'm praying that at the very

least, I can fly out to Toronto, if he hasn't got set dates out here in the

west.  That keeps me slugging away every day.  My son thinks that mother has

gone a little bonkers.  From listening to country rock to the only thing I

listen to is Yanni!!  I don't know - I don't think it's crazy at all.  Every

thing that I have downloaded brings me much peace and serenity.

and 2 years ago my husband was diagnosed with cirrhosis. In November we were

told he had maybe one year (still haven't been able to find out how they come up

with that number)and that he was advanced. He had a MELD of 19. They were

going to put him on the transplant list, until discovering we had no health

insurance to cover the cost.

I have always kept up with his lab work, and know what his numbers have been,

and the comparison to the normal range. For some reason they would not give me

the print out this last time he was in the hospital. I only know his bilirubin

was 10 (normal for him is between about .7 & 1.1)

I have heard (and i am sure that is akin to jailhouse lawyers) that once the

parascenthesis(sp) becomes quite regular that is a sign that he is doing very

badly. I do now know if that is true or not.

I have read everything i can find, but nowhere have i been able to find

something tells me what i feel the need to know. I am hoping that somewhere in

this group i can find answers and friends who have either been there are are

there. People who understand what it's like to watch the love of your life

deteriorate. I just don't know where to go or what to do anymore.

Thank you for the kind words. My husband is not as young as you might think.

He is 53. Yup, big age difference. Not that 53 is old, LOL he would be offended

53 years old is far too young to be at this juncture.  I was that age when I

first began the battle for my liver.  However, it's only recently that I

realize truly, that the fight is over.  I even thinkthat I'm too young, at 61

to be rolling up the carpet.  Especially in light of the fact that my parents

are both still living.

A little bit over a year ago, my baby brother (51) died of colon cancer.  I

only knew that he was terminal for 18 days before he went.  That wasn't

supposed to happen.  I've been in this fight for 8 yrs and I'm the eldest and

the only girl with 4 brothers.  It's sad to say; but, I'm almost glad for the

fact that my Dad has his Alzheimer days and truly believe that my Mom has

started, as well.

We have applied for social security already. We have an attorney working on it.

We had to apply immediately because of the length of time he has been not

working. More than 5 years now.

The transplant liaison is who said he wouldn't be able to get a transplant

because of the no insurance thing, plus ee don't have any " proof " he's not

drinking anymore. It's very difficult sometimes. I've tried to learn everything

I can about liver disease, and the end stages, and the MELD score. But it still

seems like I always find out something else I didn't know, that I should have.

Thanks for the information :)

> Dear Kim.

> I understand how you feel about the frustration of not finding answers, but

let me say that your posts indicate that you are very sharp, and will soon be

able to hold your own in a discussion of advanced liver disease. Our group home

page is located here

> It has a section called " files " in it. There you can find a powerpoint on how

to read a CT scan of the liver, several powerpoints on major complications, like

the " hepato-renal syndrome " , and " the hepato-pulmonary syndrome " .  There is a

paper called " clinical outcomes in cirrhosis " . This paper or one like it is how

they come up with the prognosis they gave your husband. There is even a complete

college mini course in liver disease from the university of North Carolina. Ask

lots of questions, and the many people here will post answers from thier own

knowlege and experience. We have over 500 members, including many many

transplant survivors, and caretakers, and patients. Your assesment about the

parecentesis is not far off. It is not good.

> Your husband should be eligible for medicare, because if his parecentesis is

regular, he should be " blue book " eligable for SSDI.  Please contact me before

applying for SSDI. Please remember that you should have a power of attourney for

your husband, and his medical records belong to him, he cannot be denied access

to them. You should get those labs. Also, unless he went through a full

transplant evaluation, and the social worker for the head transplant surgeon was

the one who said he couldnt get a transplant because he couldnt pay, the

transplant isnt really off the table. His primary car doc, gastro, internest,

etc, cannot make that desicion. I say this because so many people are scared off

by some one who is not really in the loop. The only loop which counts is #1

transplant surgeon, #2 transplant social worker #3 hepatologist,#4 your husband

and you.  No one else can say no, and he should be eligible for a liver

transplant, paid for by medicare.

> Just my opinion. Love, Bobby

and 2 years ago my husband was diagnosed with cirrhosis. In November we were

told he had maybe one year (still haven't been able to find out how they come up

with that number)and that he was advanced. He had a MELD of 19. They were

going to put him on the transplant list, until discovering we had no health

insurance to cover the cost.
