Guest guest
Dear , I am so sorry that you are in pain and have trouble getting your meds possibly because of the office staff. I, too, am having problems with the support staff at my pain MD's clinic. I talked to the office manager and was able to get attention to my problem. It might not hurt to try that if there is one in your MD's office. How long till your next appointment? Can you move that up any? I really hope this gets resolved soon for you. ; ) Willow
Guest guest
Hi I seriously doubt that the nurse was blowing you off. Most prescriptions for strong pain meds cannot be phoned in to the pharmacy. Even for the weaker narcotics that still can be phoned in, doctors still need to meet with the patient before the initial narcotic prescription is written. They need something concrete in their charts, in case the government makes a visit to check narcotic prescriptions. Make an appointment with your doctor and discuss your new pain medication needs face to face. -- Lyndi wrote: > I feel like this nurse, who is my liason in talking to the doctor, is > just blowing me off. Guest guest
, you've got to make an appointment to talk to your pain doc in person. I'm afraid they have their way of doing things and usually don't change meds over the phone. I bet you money if you stop trying to go through the nurse you'd be better off. You're right about the ultracet. I hope you make an appointment. Joan
Guest guest
First I do understand what you are saying. A stronger med canot be phoned in, you must pick it up and then personally drop it off. It is not legal at least in our state to phone it in. I must do that all the time. I also take the Ultracet all the time. There is something about having it in one pill that does better than having it in two pills. I do think you will like the combination. If you do not then you need an appointment to request a stronger drug. In defense of the nurse she probably cannot give you any stronger pain med called in. At least here you would need to go in and see the doc and then each time you need a refill you will have to go in and pick up the scrip. It's just frustrating. I love everyone at this clinic. It's just this one nurse that gives me problems. --------------------------------- All-new Yahoo! Guest guest
I know my pain dr. has a policy of absolutely no change in drugs between appointments. He will give me more or less of the same drug I'm on now, but no new drug. I have to see him every month anyways and I know how it can be. I know it's getting close to the holiday weekend and most docs are out starting Friday, but ask if they will squeeze you in for an appointment, even if you have to wait an hour or two. I really feel for you, it took me years to get my routine and meds worked out. It is hard. I am lucky enough now to have a dr. who will talk to you on the phone himself, but he won't break his own policies, no change in meds without an appointment. There's also not much that can be phoned in stronger than vicodin, ultracet and all the dirivetives (bad spelling) of such, they have to be hand written, hand carried. Be sure you talk to your doc at your next appointment and find out his policies for stuff like this. Most drs. keep an emergency appointment open for such things. I know it's hard to afford it if you don't have insurance, but what can you do? Guest guest
Nikki said---- I believe that if one goes into the medical profession, one assumes strenuous ethical obligations if one plans on healing. Nikki I agree with you 100% you definitly have the right idea why doctors , nurses etc SHOULD go into medicine but in reality most people ( that I've encountered ) involved in medicine are basicly in it because of the high pay , few are truly interrested in helping the patients. I think to some extent many who begin their careers with the intention of being a " healer " loose site of that and it becomes a business. In most businesses these days people are overworked but that still doesn't mean the " workers " should use that as an excuse. The way I expect to be treated is with respect and if I call a doctor and they don't call me back , I complain. If the office staff doesn't pass on messages to the doctor , I complain. In most instances , the 1st time something happens I'll do it verbally ( to one of my doctors next visit ) , if the same thing happens again to me then I'll write the doctor a short ,polite letter expressing my concerns. A good doctor will deal with it , make sure his staff make changes ( seen this a couple times ) but I've run into a few that really don't care and once was told that his nurse that decided which calls he returned was very efficent. I then told that doctor, that if the nurse was a doctor, then she could decide which calls were important to return. but every one of his patients should get the courtisey of a returned call - either by the doctor or by his nurse/office staff explaning the doctors orders/changes. He then asked me if I was a doctor, because that was the only way I could know how a doctors office should work. By then I was getting ticked off and I told him , if I was a doctor I wouldn't have come to him in the 1st place, and that I wouldn't be back again, but that I was a business man and I know good customer relations alone would have me return every phone call whether or not I was interrested in the business at hand. I told him that when I screw up and don't return calls it could mean some one didn't buy their wood from my company, but if he doesn't return phone calls it could mean a person either suffered with more pain,or could actually potentially get severly worse. I haven't seen that " businessman " doctor again because I firmly believe that the doctors who himself or allow their staff to treat patients as numbers won't see any of my money unless I have no alternative. A good staff makes a average doctor a lot better and a bad staff can sure damage a good doctors reputation. hope I didn't end up rambling or too far off the message path but I'm working with only about an hours sleep last night Jim
Guest guest
My ex-father in law was a doctor. He told me he didn't really care about the people that came to him. He was in it for the money. Not all doctors have that attitude. Gail
