ACTORS FOR AUTISM AT CLAY AIKEN EVENT! Actors for Autism made quite an impact in November at the Clay Aiken Charity Event, "Voices for Change" which was held at the Century Plaza Hotel. Executive Director Alisa Wolf, President Travolta were on hand as Cross received an award for the film, "Normal People Scare Me." This 10 minute documentary has received attention worldwide. In the film, a 15 year old boy with autism interviews pre-teens and teens on what it is like to have autism. The 10 minute film also won the People's Choice Award at the Chaminade film festival in the San Valley. Currently, they are in post-production of the feature length version of this film which will be released sometime in October 2005. Become a member MEDIA ACCESS AWARDS Executive Director, Alisa Wolf & President, Travolta were on hand at the Media Access Awards to present the Landon Award. This award is given to an individual who has made a lifetime commitment to the advancement and inclusion of people with disabilities in the media industry. The purpose of the Media Access Office is to actively promote the employment and accurate portrayal of persons with disabilities in all areas of the media and entertainment industry, ensuring that the industry recognizes people with disabilities as part of cultural diversity. click here ARCA Conference Travolta & Alisa Wolf attended the Association of Regional Centers Conference in February at the Wyndham Emerald Hotel in San Diego. Their presentation, "How acting is therapeutic" is based on their book, "Acting for kids on the Autistic Spectrum." Look for it in bookstores this summer! The Association of Regional Center Agencies (ARCA) represents twenty-one (21) regional centers in California that provide services to more than 186,000 Californians with developmental disabilities. Regional centers are non-profit organizations that contract with the state Department of Developmental Services. This public-private non-profit partnership results in the expenditure and monitoring of more than two billion state and federal dollars for people with developmental disabilities and their families. The function of the Association is to support the purpose, intent and mandate of the Lanterman Developmental Disabilities Services Act. Located in Sacramento, ARCA is an advocate, promoting action, legislation and public policy on all matters affecting the well being of persons with developmental disabilities and the prevention of developmental disabilities.
