Hello Everyone: got his new liver on May 26th. Everything was going fine.

The new liver is still working very well. During the surgery they found a blood

clot in his portal vein so they thought it would be a good idea to put him on

blood thinners. (emphasis on the word 'thought') He was coming along really

great and we had thought we would be going home. The night before (2 nights

ago) he didn't feel good and he began getting very weak. By the next morning he

couldn't even stand or sit, or he would pass out. They took him back to i.c.u.

and they found that he had bleeding in his abdominal area. They opened him back

up and found that the bleeding was in the area where they cut the old liver out.

It's not an area that you can stitch because it's like an abrasion. They took

him off blood thinners and had to give him more blood products. His color looks

better, so I'm hoping it's working. They have him heavily sedated and are

watching him very closely. We have a long road to travel yet before things

become normal again. Does anyone here have any experience with something like

this? I'd love to hear some input. Thanks, Jackie

Jackie, I am so sorry for the setback. I have no experience but just wanted

you to know that I continue to pray daily for 's healing and your soon

return to your home. This is all such an experiment, even after all these

years. But, it is an opportunity to have a second chance. I pray they get

things worked out for very soon.

Many hugs........................

I'm so sorry for the setback. I don't have any experience in that since I

didn't have any complications when I had my liver transplant, but I hope things

get better for him soon.

Dear Jackie, I am happy to hear about the liver, and wanted to share my own

knowledge about what he is going through. There is a little girl in Normal Ill.

who had a similar experience.

Annika Tiede was born with bilary atresia, and had a liver transplant soon

after birth. The graft was damaged because of a blood clot in her portal vein,

and she had to have a second transplant. Just over a year and a half ago, her

second graft failed, and she had to undergo a third transplant. They saw number

three coming for months, but when it came, it was very difficult surgery, her

blood vessels had grown all over in there, and the doctors had a really hard

time hooking her back up. . Then she was put on blood thinners because a known

blood clot had ruined her second liver, and they worried that history would

repeat itself. What complicated it was that two different sets of doctors were

fighting over her, a brain doctor who was concerned about the amounts of blood

thinners, because she had developed a slight brain bleed, , and the liver

transplant team, who said that they were NOT going to lose this liver to a clot.

So far , she is fine, and I

believe has turned 10, if I am not mistaken. Her mom skipped a whol bunch of

time on her blog, and my heart skipped a beat, not knowing what was happening.

The main point here is that I have heard of liver transplant being complicated

by coumadin, and that Annika's story is so far a success.

Hang in there, Jackie. You are one remarkable lady, you are very strong, and

stubborn in a good way, and I am sure that you are doing all you can to make

this a big success.

Love, Bobby

gonna take awhile.  The dr was just in & said he had lost alot of blood and it

will take awhile for him to feel like he's making progress.  Thanks for your

prayers.  There is nothing like the power of prayer!  Jackie
