Hi Annie! What you say about ADD tendencies is exactly how I am. For me

hyperactivity plays a significant part (more like ADHD)--it doesn't interfere in

a big way with my life, but it doesn't help matters, especially with having 4S.

But I'm not an introvert by any stretch of the imagination. Extrovert par

excellence. I'm ENFJ (Extrovert, intuitive, feeling, judging). Being an

extrovert often conflicts with 4S--there are times when I want so much to be

with people and socialize that I " forget " how difficult it can be. But I am an

observer and thinker. I don't mind being alone, but I can't be alone too much.

I love music too--listening to it and playing it. I like thunderstorms, except

the super loud ones we have here in Mexico in the middle of the night.

Take care,

Cate

Hi. I'm an ENFP, but they classified me as a "light extrovert," as I also like being alone and need time to recharge, like you said. I don't have any ADHD traits, but I have had panic attacks and an anxiety disorder in the past.

But I absolutely love music and find it a great escape. I think it is healthy, in that there are good sounds, too. I just cannot tolerate bass sounds and become fearful if I hear any hint of sounds from neighbors. A lot of sounds I just find annoying, but can tolerate them -- just not bass sounds from other people's stereos.

But, music is the great escape for me. I love it and find it therapeutic. It just makes the day and my whole mood that much brighter for me.

INFP , which would make me the idealist, I am heavily introverted, but percentages are closer on the other traits. But I think I probably flip around on some of the traits, other than with the introverted part. I love to be alone, probably too much, other people tend to overwhelm me with all their feeeeeelings....and their sounds argggI have attention problems with external sensory information, but can at time have mind numbing powers of concentration in other ways, like boy can I ever overfocus on some of those sounds. Ritalin was not that helpful. From:

I think that I am a INFP or close to it with very similar characteristics and reactions to my environment and stress, particularly audio stress. My 4S daughter and mother are also very similar in that way. I think is is very likely a 4S trait. It would be interesting to do a survey.

Anyone want to help with drawing up a survey?

I have lived over 50 years with this condition. I love life and people, but when in a no escape intolerable situation with noises, can get temporary sucidal thoughts. The rage and panic is unbearable sometimes.

On the topic of attention problems, does anyone have a daydreaming issue--when

your thoughts get " hooked " on something and could almost spend hours there in

this place outside of reality?

And now I need to spend time thinking if it is right :-)

On the question about day dreaming - my daughter is like that! 9 year old. I get

complaints from her teacher that she spends time in her dream world during

classes! I don't know if I should be very concerned... Well, at least thank God

my kids don't seem to have 4S at this point. My son is 7.

Cate, if you tend to day dream, perhaps you could write! May be you could start

but I don't have time for day dreaming... :-)

Big day dreamer here, I also got complaints from my teachers too. But I have learned to channel it better since, it can be used for good or evil... ie. Good: When I am in the dentist chair, I am also standing in a rushing river in Idaho flyfishing (laying on the beach just did not work for me!)ie. Evil: excessive anxious ruminating about possible catastrophic outcomes to future events. But CBT has been very helpful for putting the brakes on that kind of thing. I am strong INT, borderline J - which is a classic Asperger personality type (at

least, it's the most common MBTI type on the Aspie website WrongPlanet with over

44,000 members).

There is some overlap between Asperger's syndrome and ADHD: both conditions tend

to have problems with " executive function " (e.g. difficulties with starting

complex tasks, switching between complex tasks, and finishing complex tasks).

Both Asperger's syndrome and ADHD have a high incidence of sensory sensitivity,

and both are highly genetic in origin. 4S is not the most common form of sound

sensitivity with Asperger's syndrome though, but it comes up regularly in

discussions of sensory sensitivity among Aspies.

Hey,

I took the Meyer-Briggs test as well, mostly out of curiosity, and it turns out

I'm an INFJ. Shocking.

We tend to have a lot of introverts in this group, don't we? I wonder if this

could be a cause or an effect of 4S.

Hi! I'm new to this group. I've been having issues with sounds for years, but

nobody's ever really understood. I don't think it's necessarily tied to a

personality type. I'm an ENFP, so an extrovert.
