Guest guest
Jill My son had a couple of surgeries when he was a toddler, to try and correct a lazy eyes. However, I did find out until he was 16 that his eyes to not work in unison and that's just the way it is for him. Needless to say, he shouldn't go into any of the trades because of the depth perception required. Oh and by the way - didn't help his lazy eye all the well either!! We tease him that his left eye is a dead give away whether his been drinking or smoking pot!!!! Gloria ________________________________ Hey,everyone..I havern't posted in awhile. I'm recovering from a couple surgeries......knee surgery on the 11th and cataract surgery on the 18th. I see my Ortho surgeon today and get my stitches out and we will talk about the next sutrgeries! I can have partial knee repalcements instead of totals!! I'm so excited! My eye is slowly healing...it's taking awhile-it doesn't want to dilate ,making focusing both eyes together frustrating!....anmd nauseating! BUt my eye tested thurs. at 20/20! YAY!! Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
Guest guest
making eyes work right isn't a precise procedure. My second daughter had three surgeries to fix hers when she was in elementary school.. The first one was an over correction, the second one didn't work and the third one didn't fully correct it either. She refused to have more surgery until she became an adult when she started talking about having it done again as it was getting worse. Basically, she only uses one eye or she has double vision. I knew of the problem practicaly from the time she was old enough to focus her eyes, had been looking for it since her father had one eye when ended up having to be stablized, did move from left to right, just looked straight ahead, and my eyes looked out away from my nose. Doctor's said it was the same problem, just showed up different. I took her to an eye doctor when she was old enough to respond to an eye test and he said she was too young to do anything about it. Later they tried an eye patch, then glasses, but it was too late. If they had put glasses on her at 2 years old, it might have fixed the problem without surgery. Guest guest
The glasses probably wouldn't have worked either, Jan. My boy did have then at the right old age of 2 or was it 3?? The patch was also used for a very short. Oh - the glasses!! So eye doc gives me the prescription and down I go to the eye store on the bottom floor. When they're ready, I come back and picked them up. Then starts that " where's your glasses " " Shon find your glasses " , lawd I sounded like a nag even to myself. So, at the 6 weeks checkup that specialist looked at the glasses and wanted to know who prescribed those. " You did " , says I. " Well they are totally backwards " and he proceeds to write another prescription. Sure was a good thing that I didn't have to pay for them or I think I would have hit him. Finally, we go in and he hums and has and says; but, he's too young for the operation, he wouldn't be using his eyes yet. Well, as I told him - he was attending a special daycare, which was just like school. Thus was the 1st operation. Guest guest
Oh, yes those glasses. When my daughter got hers she was in 1st grade. She hated them. In the morning, I would send her off for school and then go to the kitchen to clean up after breakfast. She would hurry back when she thought I had left the front door area and put them on the case just inside the door. When she played outside, she would hide them in the grass when it was long, ready to be cut, and we would have to search the whole yard, two lots, and then of course she could just walk over to the neighbors too. I am not surprised the glasses didn't work. She probably didn't use them at school at all although I told her teacher she had them.. I had picked them out, just the gold wire type so they wouldn't be so obvious. The next glasses she picked out, dark mottled brown. When you looked at her you didn't see anything but the glasses. By second grade the doctors were giving up on the glasses and patches and operated for the first time. Rest of the story is too long for here. When we finally did get to the surgeon, before she got her first glasses and patch, I saw a child not able to walk wearing glasses. That is when I got mad at that first doctor. I had told him about her family history and that she obviously had weak eye and asked if he could handle it. He assured me he could, and then when she was in kindergarten or 1st grade, he said he was going to refer us to a surgeon. I would have loved to have knocked his head off, especially when I saw that baby wearing glasses. I figured if she could have gotten them at that age, she wouldn't have fought them so much, would have thought they were normal. After that, the whole family transferred over to the surgeon's office for all our eye care. Jan H > The glasses probably wouldn't have worked either, Jan. Guest guest
You know - having gone through the specialists for my son's health care away back then, I learned to have a demanding voice and not be overlooked as the mother! Then, we had years and years and more years have no health issues to speak of at all. I hadn't even been to a Dr. for two years when I found out about my HepC!! Now this past 6 years I feel like I've done little else but see Dr's!! At least at this point, I feel very comfortable with my health team and don't have to remind them that I'm a person first and a liver second. Guest guest
Until recently, the patient's first need was to convince the doctor she knew what she was talking about even if she wasn't a man. Everything was normal for a woman and we should quit complaining about it. I wonder what a lot of older women would do if those older doctors were still around now, courts would probably be over flowing if they allowed law suits for that attitude. Guest guest
Hello all. I am sending this message to the group to let you know that I won't be reading or posting for a while. I just don't have the physical or emotional energy to offer anything right now. I feel so drained and empty. It has now been nearly 19 months since Terry (my precious husband) went home to be with Jesus. Although my physical and emotional strength are so nearly gone, spiritually I am stronger than at any time in my life. I am so very sorry for every situation each of you are facing and I pray over each of you and your families daily. I will just be silent for a while, not sure how long, but a while. I just really feel as though the Lord is pulling me aside at this particular time in my life. I trust Him implicitly and know He has a better plan for my life. I honestly believe this is just a part of the preparation He is giving me in order for me to be able to move forward into whatever His plan is for my future. I love each of you and cherish your friendship and love. Many of you have been beside me during the absolute worst part of my life. I cannot imagine that anything I face in the future will be any more difficult or painful than releasing Terry to go home with the Lord. You guys and gals have been here for me and have loved me unconditionally. I am forever in your debt for that. Please know I will continue to pray for each of you and ask that you do the same for me. Love and hugs.............. Diane C from TN http://auntdisexperimentallife.blogspot.com/
