Guest guest
Kelley, My brother, Ken, died of leukemia in January 2003. Two of his friends ran in a Team in Training marathon in honor of him (he was still fighting leukemia at the time). It was an incredible act of love towards him, a wonderful avenue of raising money for the society and, I think the runners would tell you, something that touched their lives immeasurably. If you go to my brother's website, scroll down on the homepage and there are two links near the bottom in the middle that tell a little about their experience with TNT. I believe their email addresses are on there, also, if you wanted to contact them. Here's the link: http://www.machleukemia.homestead.com/index.html What a loving way to share your enthusiasm for fitness!! Sara Thanks Sara. A close friend of mine was diagnosed with lymphoma a month or so ago. She is in the fourth phase so has already begun an aggressive treatment program which started about a month ago. She has a wonderful attitude and is following doctor's advice to the " T " . I found a brochure on TNT in my office Friday...of all things. I checked out the races and they are all way beyond my current abilities. However, the website says they provide training, coaching and mentoring to get you ready. I thought perhaps I would be ready to do a half marathon (13 miles) in Virginia Beach scheduled for Sept 5th. It is a scary, yet exciting challenge to put to myself. And I think my friend would be deeply touched to have someone running/walking in her honor. Guest guest
I bet you can prepare for this by then! One of the 5Ks we've run has been for leukemia and one for cancer. Most go to good causes. Haven't run any half marathons yet though. I just ran it, I didn't do the TNT. It's a nice course. Very flat. Sounds like my kind of course. I am very interested in learning about the TNT training program, being that I have yet to run longer than 5 minutes much less 5 miles. I'm quite confident I would walk/run this course unless I'm taught some miraculous method of learning to run before Sep! Have you ever been to Virginia before? Not quite as nice as I expected it to be. Well, the beach is nice but the reast of town is kind of a dumpy, sleepy sprink break-y area. Yes, I've been and have the same oppinion as you. Kind of feels stuck in the fifties or something. I attempted a Team In Training event(Bermuda) right before I found out about BFL. I raised a lot of money but had to stop halfway through my training due to a foot injury. But they still got to keep the money. I think it's a really neat thing. Terri Thanks for your response.
