Guest guest
I know this might sound really dumb, but my dietician was just telling me that caffene can raise some people's blood sugar. I like to drink a lot of diet coke and this hasn't seem to affect me, but she says it does with some people. Maybe this is what it is. Coffee itself even without anything in it does have carbs, but not a lot, diet coke comes in caffeine free if thats your concern. What I was told about artificial sweetners is that your body can't distinguish between the artificial sweetners and sugars in the way that they make your body think that food is coming and it will start making you hungry. I was advised to drink my drinks with artificial sweetners with my meals, but I'm not good at this, I like my diet sodas in between meals. If I am wrong, could somebody correct me? I'm still new at this and still learning, but I think this is right.>> I've heard this too, but splenda isn't artificial in the tech sense, its made from sugar, but really doesn't matter, I use them all, I think its the sweet taste that very well could in some people kick off a craving for carby sweet food. I've never encountered this myself, I drink coffee and diet rc and diet rite all day long. Once I started using diluted heavy cream in my coffee and did away with my coffeemate, even when I accounted for the carbs, it made a big difference, so it wasn't the coffee for me. carol
Guest guest
<< Well that wasn't very successful. I was 114bgs and had one cup of coffee (1/2 caf free-1/2 not- Maxwell house lite). I put 2 tbsp heavy whipping cream ( 0 carbs) and 3/4 packet of equal (less then 1 carb) in the coffee. One hour later I am up 30 bg's to 144. Can't figure it out. I drink diet drinks that have aspartame with no effect. >> My BGs often rise with high fat - I know that's contrary to the experience of a lot of folks who do low carb, but it's true for me. Also, your liver will release glucose all on it's own at times, particularly if you haven't eaten for several hours, so that may also have happened. Or if you had previously eaten something that took a long time to digest, that could also account for the rise. Nan

Guest guest
---Never thought to do a test on coffee. I love coffee! I did switch to decaf except for the first cup of the day, need that push! I bought the heavy whipping cream today. Never looked at it before. I also drink only the no caffeine diet coke.
