I have a big pillow that I have to sleep on to keep me propped up too. My

hips are always going numb and I have a lot of pain in them. I wish I was

small enough to have someone carry me around too! =) Somehow, I don't think

that will happen. I have spent many sleepless nights because of the pain in

my hips. Sometimes it feels like a vice (sp?) is crushing them. I know how

she feels!

you sleep flat or on pillows? Tabitha sleeps on several pillows, if she

slides off the pillows, she is up crying with a headache. the ngs said

this is not a chiari headache. i was wondering about the rest of you.

also, she has been complaining of her hip or where her leg hooks on has

been hurting. and her leg has been going numb, she wants me to carry

her all the time now . he said this is not from the chiari either and

then he said he would see her in a year to redo the mri.... they are so

Hi there, I sleep on a hospital pillow wedge with a contoured pillow

for extra support on my neck. I got them from a medical supply store.

After my surgery I had problems sliding off my pillows in the night and

had pain also. Once I got the pillow wedges they were wide enough to

stop me from rolling off in the middle of my sleep. Hope this helps and

good luck.

You are very welcome Eunice. I think we all have to test as often as we are

comfortable with. And we shouldn't feel that because we do it one way, that

it isn't the right way. We are all different human beings with different

bodies. We know our bodies. If we feel we must test more often then that

is fine. If we feel we must test less often then that is fine also.

As far as monitors go, I was told that it's a matter of preference.

Is that right?? Do most people seem to use the Accu Chek?? I want

to know which ones are best before I go spend money on one. Any

input would be great. Thanks.

Hi Beth,

It is a matter of preference. My doctor recommended the One Touch

Sure Step by Lifescan. I'm happy with it.

Lots of times, there will be a rebate when buying the monitor. In

fact, the monitor will be free with the purchase of strips.

--- My husband and I use the Glucometer Elite and we both like it

since it has a large display window which he needs for the failing

eyesight. Some on the list use the accu check and they like that

one. My son has the RSG and it was the cheapest at 19.95. the

strips were also cheaper than the others. Your insurance may cover

the cost of the machine and strips. check with your doctor and if so

get a perscription for it.

Hi Beth:

Welcome to this group. The folks here are very warm and supportive.

Insofar as monitors go, sometimes the big discount stores (Walmart,

Kmart) or the chain pharmacies (Walgreens) will offer a deal where

they give you a monitor for free if you buy a certain number of

strips. The companies like Accu Chek and Lifescan make their money on

the strips and lancets - not on the monitors - so they can afford to

give them away sometimes.

I use the Accu Chek Advantage monitor with their Comfort Curve

strips. I am very fortunate in that our insurance covers everything.

I'm very thankful for that.

Please feel free to ask as many questions as you need to. It does get

easier!

Bottom line: Can therapists now provide services IN the physician's office

WITHOUT having to be an employee of the doc?? If so, can someone provide

the reference and or any pitfalls to this? (other than the potential issues

with ethics/self referral).

Sharon,

I take Baclofen but it knocks me out so I can't take it during the day.

Re: Question

I agree 100% Sharon. After I had Chloe and was complaining to the doctor about the pain in my legs and back, he prescribed Flexaril (cyclobenzaprine) Number 1 it did nothing for the pain but knocked me out enough so that I didn't feel anything. After MS, I was diagnosed with muscle spasms and was given Baclofen. At one point I was up to 4 10mg pills a day. Now I only take 2 and that seems to do the trick. I feel alot more limber, the muscles don't seem as tight or stiff, and I can walk with little difficulty most days.

Is the other medication you are talking Gabadril(sp)? My father was taken of Neurontin and put on Gabadril for his sever almost convulsion like spasms with very good effect.

Most MSers have to be careful with Bengay or stuff like that. Sometimes the heat it gives the muscles is enough to cause us some problems. Remember MSers are affected by hot showers, etc? Other times the nerve issues we already have will escalate wildly by using Bengay. I have successfully used a product called Sombra. It's a natural product made in New Mexico. The physical therapist I went to used it and sold it in his office.

So you are having muscle cramps then? Muscle relaxers aren't always the best thing for MS-Muscle Cramps. With MSers what they are experiencing is usually muscle spasms and spasticity. Do you take Neurontin or Baclofen? There's another popular one and I can't think of the name of it right now.

Re: Question

{{{{{{{{Trista}}}}}}}}

How are you doing the past few days? What's going on with the pain and the lump??

Hugs,

Challis

Good morning all.I have been in pain the last few days, so haven't been posting much. My arms and hands are killing me. I can hardly use my hands for anything. They ache and feel "cramped". This morning I woke up to a painful lump on my left forearm. It feels about the size of a quarter and very sore. I pushed on it and it seemed to "pop" back into place. I can still feel it, but it's not as big anymore. Anyone experience this? Is it a tendon, a muscle? I haven't done anything to injure my arm. Could it be MS related or something else? Go figure, I actually have a sx that a Dr. can "see" and it's the day before Thanksgiving, so I can't go in. No more typing for me. These stinking hands just won't work. :( TIA, Trista

Good question. No, I haven't really been keeping track. I know I should. I can't write much, because it hurts, but I should start trying to jot it down, or get Steve to help. Hugs, Trista

Re: Question

Not more than I wanted to know at all. I'm so sorry for all the problems you're having. I've not experienced the problem with the leg/foot, but I've sure heard of it from plenty of MSers. You know one of us will ask, so I'll go ahead. LOL Are you keeping record of this? Writing is hard for you, so maybe printing or just saving these emails?? This is a lot going on. I hope it eases up very soon, Trista.

Hugs,

Challis

Hi Challis. The lump is there, but a little smaller and it is now a silver dollar sized bruise under the skin. I know I didn't bump it on anything. ??? As for the pain, my hands and arms are still giving me a lot of trouble. It used to be that only my left arm hurt, but now my right does too. The worst part is that it makes it hard to hold the baby. The numbness is so bad at times, I'm scared of picking him up. I can't feel my fingers. I've been taking vicodin for pain, but it doesn't touch the nerve stuff.

It's funny, I seem to "trade" sx's. One thing will stop and another will start. My vision is fine now. Yesterday I noticed a new thing for me. I was shopping and noticed that my left leg didn't want to work. I felt like I was just dragging it along with me everywhere I went. I'm chugging along though. No choice but to keep on keepin' on. Probably more than you wanted to know, but there it is! Thanks for asking. How are you feeling lately? Take care, Trista

Hi Ron,

Sounds like things are looking up a bit. Glad to see some things are looked at

and addressed by the MD.

Hope it is helping. And glad you are doing better too. Hope the head aches are

Caregave for Mom (after I brought her from WI to MI) for 3 years and 4th year in

a nh.

She was almost 89 when she died in '02. No dx other than mine.

question

Hi all , in the ongoing testing to see whats wrong with me the dr added Inderal

to klonapin and found that my folic acid is very low so he put me on 800 mgs a

day.He still doesnt have a dx and will be doing another mri to see the spot

later down the road.I go back in October.Anyway I was reading about the folic

acid and found that low amounts in your blood can cause depression and memory

loss.My question is I wonder how many lbder have been tested for folic acid

levels and if taking the supplements could help them?Mom has slipped rapidly and

I sometimes wonder if were almost to the end.I have been able to fight off

pressure sores on her though she hardly moves on her own and she cries all the

time again and we hardly sleep.Im not whining , just letting you know thats why

Im slow with contact.Im still here and still trying to stay strong upstairs and

when I can Im still reading.Huge hugs to all Ron

Ps. I am finally rid of huge distractions in my life, from my past, and it

almost ruined me trying to rid them ...But I did it.Love to all
