So the lc bread probably has about half the carbs of regular bread, very good

for you!!! :-)

It raises me too, but with me each carb it raises my bs by 6, so it does

matter if I eat lc bread or not. It is good, I agree.

What area are you in? and who is the dr? Tell us so we won't accidently go to

him, LOL

Nothing personal against you, but this dr is sorely outdated, he needs to get

eduacated on managing diabetes, many dr's do not know diabetes management.

Many of us have dumped our dr's for a new one because its out bodies and they

are putting us at risk for complications and disability and even death.

testing twice a day, no way, I test at least 10 times a day, how in the world

are you going to know how food affects you, or if even if your meds are

working, if you take any.

To me its like driving without a speedometer as someone on another list said.

Testing before and 1 and 2 hours after every meal and snack is necessary to

see how much it raises your bs, plus fasting, and at bedtime to see how much

you rise during the night.

Yes I know this is a lot but my dr is thrilled I'm not in denial over my

diabetes. Its the only way for you to find the food that agrees with you,

IMHO.

I can't eat toast (11 carbs whole oat bread) even with eggs and bacon I

spike 100 points which is bad in my opinion. I found some low carb (3 carbs)

bread at synergy that isn't too bad tasting. It still spikes me but not as

badly. This morning I had two open faced grilled swiss and ham on it and

went up about 55 points (not great but better then 100 <G>)

>>Today I decided to test myself one hour after eating the bread.

I went from 87 this morning upon waking up to 186 one hour after the bread.

Is this normal?<<

Are you eating protein (eggs, meat, nuts) with your bread? That makes a big

difference for me as it slows down the metabolism of the bread. (That

sounds funny....like bread has a metabolism LOL...but you know what I mean).

Also, IMO, it is not so much whether it is " lite " bread for me, but whether

it is WHOLE grain bread (processed wheat bread doesn't count). I eat a

bread called Health Nut.

How long after you ate that those numbers were taken? One hour or two

hours?

One hour. But I have heard that spikes over 40 pts are bad for us. That it

is not just the two hr reading that is important. It makes sense to me as

non diabetic people do not spike like that. So I always test to see how high

I actually go. With a new food I will test at 1 hr, 1.5 hrs, and 2 hrs.

Boy I can go from 288 to 28 in an hour so I must really be wacked

out! I eat Aunt Millie's All Natural Potato or Sourdough white

bread. It has total carbs of 11 in one slice and 1g sugar. I

try to eat one slice at a time but sometimes cheat and have two.

My Dr. told me to test twice a day only!!!!!!! Otherwise he

said you drive yourself crazy with testing for every little

thing. I might test a 3rd time if I feel like I might be

getting too low (below 50). But I'm trying to stick to the

twice a day thing. About 7:30 in the a.m. and 8:30 in the

p.m. Before I eat anything and usually before I do my treadmill

workout in the morning . In the evening I sometimes have a snack

afterwards and sometime not.

Thanks for your reply. If I wanted to keep from spiking over 40 pts, I

probably would have to eat just a nibble every hour, every waking

hours. Since I'm not a " non-diabetic " person any more, it'd be

impossible to make my body behave like a " non-diabetic " one. So, I'll

try to manage my diabetes as much as I can, while leading a normal

life.

My dr. is a specialist in infectious diseases. He told me

I and take control of my disease and not let it control me.

I need to watch what I eat, when I eat and how much. If

my levels are in a range less than 200 every day, twice a

day I am doing OK. The lower the better -- but not so

low I get sick.

I can hardly stand testing twice a day, my finger tips are

raw and numb from it now. I think you are letting it control

you if you test too often. Plus, my insurance only pays for

a 90 day supply of lancets and test strips, more I would have

to pay for out of pocket.

My dr. is well known in the area (Cincinnati Ohio -- home of

UC medical school) and rated one of the best doctors in the

country.

I am well pleased with my weight loss and diet plan from the

local hospital and my levels are very steady every day. I

know where I am at without testing 10 times a day. I did

test 5-6 times a day for a short period where I was having

trouble with too low of levels.

Just my 2c worth from this end. To each their own. But each

person has to take his/her doctors own advice and do what is

right for them. If I had to bother testing 10 times a day

I would give up right now -- too much bother/worry.

Remember, too, that diabetes is a " not-one-fits-all "

disease. I, myself, only test twice a day, except if

I'm wondering how a new food fits into my diet.
