Andi, I have a stent in also. I never felt mine. I never had pancreatitis either. I was having them changed every three months for a yar. I am down to twice a year now.

They give me demeral and versed. Then I take 800 mg. floxin for a few days. I am on 400 mg. of floxin everyday. I have had psc for 2 years now. Hope this info helps. Marsha

Andi

I have had 4 ERCP's and have been lucky enough to have had pancreatitis all 4

times. Each time involved a hospital stay of about 4 to 6 days and about

another 2 weeks of recovery at home.

On Jan 4th 2001 I had an ERCP and Sphincterotomy done. I did suffer

from pancreatitis after the proceadure(4 days of vomiting and

abdominal pain). I also had a #10 stent put in my main bile duct. I

was wondering how long does proceadurally induced pancreatitis takes

to resolve?. Can stents be felt?. Iam experiencing mild pain. Iam

only concerned because Iam off the Cipro and Ativan now and not sure

what to expect in the way of pain. Is there a possibility of post

ERCP cholangitis?.

Andi,

I had my first ERCP done 2 days before Mem.Day, 2000. I also had a

sphincterotomy done, biopsies and a #10 French stent put in my common bile

duct. I thought the pain was horrible. I was in the hosp. til Mem. Day when I

went home w/o getting my pain rx filled. (didn't have any pain meds at home

either)The pain was excruciating until I got my rx. I am not one for taking

pain meds, but I was taking them every 4 hr. for about 4 days. I did not feel

the stents at all. Three months later, when I had an ERCP to remove the

stents, I had absolutly no pain at all. I am sure the pain I had w/the first

ERCP was due to the biopsies and possibly the spinct. My Dr. (hep. and liver

specialist) and his staff at the hosp. are the greatest. I have full

confidence in them for future ERCP's. I started URSO 2 weeks later and I have

felt pretty darn good ever since.

Andi,

Any inflammation or swelling of the bile ducts can produce a

pain. In the almost 4 weeks since your ERCP your pancreatitis

should have resolved, the stent may be stretching your bile duct

and generating an ache (I'll leave it to those who have

experience in this area to confirm or deny this).

Post ERCP bacterial cholangitis is relatively common. It may

flare up once you are off antibiotics. It will usually produce a

fever, and you only report pain. I would suspect some other type

of cholangitis. Possibly caused by a blockage elsewhere. You

would know if it was a pancreatitis attack, and if you are not

jaundiced it is not blocking all the bile, so I guess a blockage

in one lobe of your liver.

Is treatment urgent? How bad is the pain? Another ERCP would

probably be the choice to clear a blockage, although a PTC (via

needle instead of hose) is an alternative if not accessible via

ERCP.

I have had a total of 4 ERCP's. I was never given antibiotics before or after as a precaution and haven't had any pain afterward. The one time the doc accidentally tore a duct there was a little discomfort but I didn't need any pain medicine.

Barby, you have twice the experience I have had. I

had 2 ERCP's. Both I was extremely anxious about

because I gag easily. The first one I woke up during

and they slammed my head back down on the table. I

was groggy a whole day afterwards but did not

experience any pain.

The 2nd one, again I was afraid before hand, and the

sedated me extra to keep me from waking up, and I

slept the whole next day, and no pain or nausea

whatsoever.

I am more afraid of getting pancreatitis and waking up

during the proceudre than I am of the procedure

itself.

, I woke up during ERCP, but it was not dramatic. It was only for a

minute or so and it was like a bad dream, but not a nightmare at all. I

remember it, but it was not painful or so, only a little uncomfortable.

Absolutely not worth worrying too much. They just give you some more

sleepstuff immediately (dont know the English word by now) and it's over and

you are " in sleep " again.

Hope this helps,
