Guest guest
Hi guys, Well I had my first sympathetic nerve block this morning. I wasn't expecting it, but the doctor said, " Let's try it. " Man, that big huge needle felt like a sword when he stuck me in the neck with it, and then told me to keep my eyes open so he could see my pupils. I think I ground down a few fillings! Odd thing, my blood pressure went from 137/78 to 110/67 after the injection. Anyway, the result was a complete relief of the nerve pain from the lipomas in my right shoulder, arm, and wrist. Still have the arthritis pain in those joints, but the burning, biting pain is gone for now. Starting to come back after about 6 hours, but at least we know that something helps. He seems to think that a series of injections to cover arms and legs would work to totally eliminate that pain. Don't I hope so! Well, I am no longer winking one red droopy eye, and my voice is returning to normal--I sounded like Arnold Schwarzenegger for awhile! But I don't earn his salary... Time to go stir the chili and think about mixing up some cornbread. You're all invited! Ron made his world-famous sugar cookies... Peace, Judi
Guest guest
Barb, Remember I said I have the worse pain now and it happened right after an SI joint injection.? Well I still think that for some reason when I had it in this area, it irritated a nerve or something and I have a problem now I didn't even have before and the pain is much worse than the sciatica I had to begin with. My PT says that she has seen people get worse sometimes after an injection, yet when I looked up for this kind of thing on the internet, I couldn't find any information. Now on the paper listing side effects, it does mention, nerve damage. And I get the feeling that the dr is covering his ass and doesn't want to admit this could be the problem. I wish that he would just be honest so I could have some idea what to expect.is this now permanent? Will it resolve? How long to resolve? It has now been 5 months and tho the pain is less it is still very much there and I have to take percoset every day for that pain. JP Nerve Block Hi all, I had a nerve block done near L5 on my left side on Wednesday. I feel worse than ever. I even have great pain where there basically was none, by my lower back on the left side and my (l. buttock) piriformis is very bad. Has anyone had a similar experience? I am so upset. The doctor said give it time....I know I felt a little worse after an epidural but this is way worse. I can't get comfortable. I was looking forward to the block and I can't believe how much I hurt now. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks Barbara
Guest guest
Over the years I've had most of the injections they ussually try. My SI joint injections did nothing but terribly irritate things, the pain lasted nearly three weeks. Facet injections were of no help, but nothing but soreness from the injections. Epidural steiroid was of no help. I've taken bi-lateral nerve root injections (under flouroscope) every 2 months for the past year. The bi-laterals put me " back on my feet " the side effects after 1 year caused me to stop them. The cortisoine always crystalized (google) for the first few days and it made the pain a lot worse, the next 5 to 6 weeks was worth it. My eyesight getting drastically worse, loose teeth, hair loss, several different reasons made them no longer feasible. Nothing, aside from opoids has ever relieved my low back pain, the " catches " that buckle your knees, stiffness, spasms, ect. My best friend is a heatpad. thanks Jeff > > Hi all, I had a nerve block done near L5 on my left side on Wednesday. > I feel worse than ever. Guest guest
Hi Jeff, Thanks for your response. Are you saying the cortisone in the shots gave you the side effects that you mentioned? That is terrible. Sorry to hear that. Is there no permanent surgery to help you? One more question, what opoid drug are you taking? I'm wondering if one is better than another. Thanks again.
