Guest guest
Congratulations on your new " toy " , ! I started using a cane a few months ago and just this week got my handicapped parking placard. Now to find an open space...seems when I didn't need the HC space, they were always free, and now that I can legally park in them, they're always full! Did you use 2 canes? What do you do when your hands ane wrists hurt and it hurts too much to hold on to the cane? Just stay home, I guess. I wish my car would just convert to a very narrow cart, so when I get to the mall or grocery or Wal-Mart, I could push a button and the thing would just automatically shrink around me, then I could putt away! Enjoy your new freedom, Judi > After putting off getting a walker since June, I finally broke down and > got one! Guest guest
Judi Started with one cane, went to 2 shortly after. But it took me about 5 years to get move up to a walker. Just stubborn you know. My worst problem with the canes is the shoulder and neck. It was just too much moving the canes in front of me and pulling myself ahead, so to speak. Using the canes always gave my shoulder a work out that made it worst. With this, I just move ahead. Still have to put weight on the arms of course, but it is nothing like having to use the canes. Plus now I can use the walker in the kitchen without worrying about canes falling and I can't bend to pick them up. Let's face it, you do need to use your hands in the kitchen. :-) As for the hands and wrists hurting....really nothing I can do about that for now, but I do use my braces when they are really bad and that helps a bit. I know it is just terrible out there for a parking space, isn't it. They really need to set more spaces for us. The baby-boomers are getting older and we need our " little helpers " any where we can get them. Parking spaces are one of them. Next is......don't have a handicap ramp and make it so it is impossible to be able to move around in a store because the isles are too small. I just hate that! I know there will be some shops that I can't shop in anymore because the walker won't fit. This walker isn't one of those big ones either. The merchants jam too much product in their stores. It makes it really hard for us gimps to get around. I know there is the internet, but I like to touch and test what I am buying. Just old fashion I guess......LOL Big gentle hugs -----Original Message----- From: mormar46 [mailto:mormar46@...] I started using a cane a few months ago and just this week got my handicapped parking placard. Guest guest
Thanks I was really putting this off and now I am so glad I finally got it. Sometimes being stubborn has it's bad side. I am actually going out tonight in this shopping frenzy time of year. That is something I haven't done in a long time. Hugs -----Original Message----- From: [mailto:Matsumura_Clan@...] Thanks for sharing your story, . I happy that your new walker is making your life so much easier and more comfortable. Guest guest
Dear : That sounds like a really neat walker. I am glad you finally got it. I should get one, cause I get out of breath very easily and have trouble walking too. I have a scooter though which has helped me a great deal when I have to walk far. Good luck with your walker. Guest guest
I love it! Fortunately, I have only had to use it a couple of times,........ so far. Christmas Eve was the big test since we had everyone over here. Our granddaughter, loves it! She has practiced all over the house for me, to make sure it will work! Ya! I believe that! NOT!!! LOL She is very caring and makes sure I use it when I need to. I am still self consious when I use it in puplic. Don't know why since I used canes for years, but I am. It is a blessing when I do use it in public. I can't believe how far I can go with it before my hip and back wears out. Then I can sit on it and rest til the pain/muscles relax and go again. Usually just to get to the car, but sooooo much easier now when I get tuckered out. Sad to hear you have to have a scooter, but it is also good to know that you can get around. One of those times technology IS a good thing. <grin> Now if those chemists at all those pharmacutical companies would get going on some drugs that would cure more than what ails us, we would be one happy group of people! Again, I will say that if anyone is using canes, get your dr/insurance to ok a walker. It is soooo much safer and easier to use. Big gentle hugs _____ From: ANJILLAH@...
