Maureen, I had a decompression 13 years ago & did really well, but the

recovery did take a long time. I had a fusion 9 months post-op & a lot of

my symptoms have gone away, but again the recovery has taken a very long

time & at least for requires enormous amounts of patience - something I

should have since I'm a piano teacher (I do for my students), but not for

me. I really think (at least keeping my fingers crossed) that mine is or

will be a success. Hope this is somewhat encouraging. jen

Hi Maureen,

You have asked some questions that I don't have the answer to, and some

that have no definite answer.

I also learned from being with this group that some people continue to

feel bad...some are worse and some feel better. As for how long feeling

better lasts I think that depends on the individual.

I have been told that I can stay just as I am now with no progression or,

I can come to a brick wall and have to have the surgery.

There are just no pat answers to some questions.

I have ACM1/ Syringomyelia/Fibromyalgia. So far everything is being taken

care of with medicine. I don't feel good but I can tolerate the pain.

Hugs,

Judy Marie

Hi Maureen,

I am definetly feeling better after haveing

the decompression surgery. The recovery can

be slow and subtle. I had so many symptoms

before surgery, it takes time for the body to

relax and heal. If you have specific questions

let me know.

Maureen,

You can count me in as one the Chiarians who

definitely had a successful surgery. I had mine

12/98, and I am now 7 months post-op and doing very

well considering how I was before the surgery.

Before my surgery I could barely walk, my legs were so

weak and heavy. I had other major symptoms too, but my

legs were the worst.

Not all of my symptoms are gone, I didn't really

expect them to be. But the ones that are left, I can

live with--I call them " nuisance symptoms. "

I posted a little while ago when I returned from

vacation at the beach. This year at the beach was so

great, because I could walk and walk and keep on

walking without pooping out. I never had to take Advil

for those Chiari aches and pains (okay I did have a

mini-hangover one morning and had to pop a few, but

that's another story!)

Hope this helps you,

Sheila

Maureen,

Please don't let the posts here discourage you!! In general, the

people here (myself included) are a small percentage of the Chiari

population that is still seeking answers for themselves, their

children, or their spouses.

There are PLENTY of success stories out there!!! Chip is one of them,

and he has a whole bunch more on his web site. Check it out!
