The sound of a cat purring... ahh I just love it. My cat especially (I have 3 cats) will lay on my stomach/chest (when I'm laying on my side or back) or lay in my arms and just look at me and purr.. pure love.

My husband asked me the other day if there are any sounds I enjoy. I had to think for a minute. Birds singing.....no, not really. Too high pitched. The radio....no, definately not. Too unpredictable. I do enjoy rain on the windowpane, brown noise, our choir at church, Casting Crowns....that's all I can think of right now. Anyone have any sounds they enjoy?

Love music, absolutely love it! Caveat, not through walls and not through rinky dink radios with bad sound. I enjoy birds ... unless they're outside my bedroom window at 5am and waking me up (the Kookaburras at 5 a.m. in Australia are wicked that way, we have nothing even close to this sound in America.) Love the sound of my daughter's voice and laugh, and all children's giggles, actually. I enjoy animal sounds while taking a hike. The sound of rain, rivers and the ocean are really nice. I like thunder and wind storms, crackling fires.

I love the sound of bubble wrap popping, people typing on a keyboard, certain words like Kumquat and Baclava. I like thunderstorms and certain sounds of rain, especially the sound of cars slushing in the rain as they drive by on the wet road. I also love the sound of freeways. Standing at a gas station off of a major interstate, listening to the sound of the traffic rolling by is pure heaven. It isn't just a neutral sound that isn't painful, it's a positively joyful, soothing sound that I love to hear. It makes me illogically happy.

Interestingg that you actually like (not just neutral to) key board typing and so many people here I've noticed hate it.

Great topic! I'm listening to one of my favorite sounds right now: the whoosh of

warm air going through the vents in my house. Rain on the roof, leaves, and the

hood of my raincoat is a great one. I've been blocking the bad sounds at work

with the Brandenburg Concertos lately--mind-blowingly beautiful! But not

conducive to getting anything done, because the music demands my full attention.

I like my pets' contented sounds. Oh, and the sound of the dishwasher running.

It's the perfect white noise. I would totally buy a recording of it. I like the

sound of waves at the beach. And, about fifteen years ago, I had an apartment

that was a couple of blocks away from a freeway. I enjoyed the distant roar of

traffic as I dropped off to sleep. Sounded a lot like the beach, really very

calming.

Actually, I know it's weird but I find that I typically like sounds that short, staccato sounds without any uncurrent rasping or dragging sounds. I don't know if that translates well so that you know what I mean.

Hi Everyone,

Shoe sounds.....

I love the sound of tap dancing. Something about the sound of the tap shoes

hitting the floor appeals to me but can't tolerate the sound of high heels or

flip flops. Go figure!

Best regards,

Elaine

I've never thought about the sounds I like. I never think about the sounds I

don't like until I hear them. Well, until I got here anyway. I have to go way

back for the best sound - my mother's voice. Her reading to me as a child.

That's the best sound I've ever heard. I enjoy my cat's purring, a cardinal

singing, babies giggling, audio books, moving water as in a stream, the ocean or

my backyard pond with pump. The opening music to House.

That's funny. Tap dancing drives me Craaaaaazzzzy. But it's not the 'sound' per se, it's the rhythm. To me, I can never pick out a rhythm in the tap dancing. Maybe I'm 'tap deaf' but to me, it's just random noise and it's the chaos of the sound that drives me bonkers more than the actual 'tap' sound if that makes sense. I can tolerate it somewhat if a person is tap dancing without other music. But if someone is trying to tap dance to a musical score, I just want to cry because it's sensory overload for me.

I love music~~the louder the better  (I'm a dancer and am ALWAYS right in front of the band, right in front of the speakers)   Love birds singing, the sound of water in waterfalls, rivers, oceans, rain, even a simple fountain!  Love the wind in the trees, the sound of people laughing, a fire crackling.  Love to hear the wind rustling leaves in various trees/bamboos, each type of leaf making it's own sounds, love to hear the wind.  Love hearing the quiet after a big snowfall.  Even like the sound of the train far down in the valley as it toots its horn!   My worst trigger is dogs barking~~and since many Americans have bought into the hype of " rescuing " the zillions of dogs' babies breeding out there by the millions, I am trying now to find a " pet-free society " of like-minded folks who do not believe in " rescuing " these yelling animals that wreck the relationship of neighbors and neighborhood, causing us all to hate each other, a place where we can pet each other, human to human, (because Goddess knows WE all need petting, love & understanding~~we, meaning all us humans out there.)

wonderful topic!love love music.  always have.  trains, lawn mowers outside my window in the summer, thunderstorms, cats purring, the overwhelming sound of cicadas on a really hot summer day, ocean waves and other water sounds - rivers and streams, etc, and although my fiances heavy breathing drives me nuts, i love the sound of his steady even breathing when he is asleep (and not snoring ;-)).  i find it very soothing.

speaking of music - does anyone have any particular music that drives them crazy?  there are  a few albums in particular that i just cant listen to - miles davis, live evil is one of them...  just curious!

And I LOVE hearing a baby breathe, kids laugh, etc. :) There are LOTS of sounds I enjoy when I stop and think about it.---------------------------------------------------------

This was a great post until you decided to once again bash dog owners.

I was enjoying reading about the sounds you do like, since that it what

this was all about in the first place. Then it took a sour turn. I

find it funny that you are claiming that is it the people who choose to

own dogs that are wrecking neighborhoods and causing people to hate each

other. To me, you are the one spewing hate. You are the one with the

sound sensitivity to dog barking. Its not the dogs or their owners

fault. This is something YOU need to learn to handle without placing

blame on everyone else. Did you ever stop to think that the more you

talk about hating pet owners the more you are re-enforcing the

negativity associated to dogs barking?

My brain *LOVES* jazz music that features xylophones and vibraphones.

Specifically, I love the tone of those instruments. My mind and body relax

noticeably and immediately when I hear them.

There's a jazz station in my area that plays this sort of low-key stuff in the

evening, and it's like an instant hit of opiates to my brain. Actually, that's

exactly the effect that music (the stuff we like, anyway) has: it stimulates the

production of feel-good hormones, including endorphins and opiates.

However, I can't tolerate jazz that has that nervous, chattery quality. Makes me

anxious. And I really dislike the scat style of jazz singing. Irritates the heck

out of me! Louis Armstrong...yuck. Ditto Ella Fitzgerald, unless she's singing

actual words that mean something. :-)

Cheers

I love the sound of the highway noises as well. I would keep my window open

when I lived in Sofia because it would help to calm me. Now I do not live in

the city and it is way too quiet sometimes. Dogs barking or loud music is much

worse against a quiet background.

I like that you guys are bringing up nice sounds. I love loud noises. I think i maily like them because they sound out the little noises. I love my car purring on my pillow at night. And i love lawn mowers and cars also! It really calms me down if i was in a panic mode because i heard my trigger noises.
