Dear Kay, Thank you for your prompt reply to my e-mail about Rod Liddle's comments, yesterday ('Pretend disabled’ really ARE sick, The Sun, 26 January 2012). It is quite proper free press policy that columnists should be entitled to express their views but, (1) will you say whether, in this case, they are also those of The Sun or, if not, make clear how they differ? (2) permit equal space and prominence, as Rod has had, for fair right of reply? It is important that you and your readers understand that the number of replies you receive will be but a tiny fraction of those who would like to write but are unable and also because the link for comments under the original article has been removed. I hope, therefore, that you will publish a substantial selection of those you do receive. Thank you for taking this as seriously as do we who represent people with M.E. Yours sincerely drjohngreensmith@... Dr H Greensmith ME Community Trust.org ---------- 27 January 2012 Dear Dr Greensmith Thank you for your letter. I am sorry you do not agree with some of the views expressed by our columnist, Rod Liddle. We allow all our columnists to express their views in their columns, but that does not mean that they are the Sun’s views. It is always useful to hear readers’ opinions, and we do take them into consideration when forming policy for future. I am sorry for the distress that this article has caused for you, and can assure you that your views will be passed on to the Editor and senior executives for discussion, as well as Rod Liddle. Do feel free to write to us about the paper, or any other subject that you feel merits discussion. Our readers are the most important element of our success and we constantly strive to give satisfaction and value, so we do listen and take account of what you have to say. Yours sincerely Kay Acting Letters Editor -----------
