Jess,

Could you remind me again what is wrong with your shoulder. I know its an

impingement but how did they diagnose this and what meds/therapies have you

tried?

I have cysts in my shoulders and am trying to decide if it is worth the

surgery as well. Frustrating.

I'm not sure about recovery time. What type of Dr is telling you this? In my

experience Orthopedic Dr. are unrealistic in their recovery times or at least

both of mine where.

Good luck and I hope things turn out great for you.

They diagnosed it with my limited range of motion, pain and it also showed up on

the mri. I also have arthritus in my ac joint that they are going to clear out

doing the surgery since they will be in here.

I have tryed physical therapy, massage, acupunctor and I am currently taking

mobic and percocet from the pain from my shoulder, back and neck.

When you say that Othopedic's aren't realistic with there recovery times do you

think they tend to say it would take less time then it acually takes or more

time. I have never had surgery before so I don't know what to expect.

My vote is LESS!! Surgeons of all kinds always think you should

be " all better " long before any realistic recovery period.

It helps if you talk to your surgeon about specific outcomes, rather

than a general " recovery " time. If you just say " recovery " they may

just reply as if it means out of the hospital and back on your feet.

On the other hand, if you ask for example, " When will I be able to

lift XX pounds, use my arm to make my bed, no longer feel any pain

from the surgery site " you *might* get more accurate estimates.

It might help to ask too about what's " best " , " average " and " worst "

recovery periods for key activities.

But I still think they just report based on their best patient result

to make themselves look better!

Oh, and one other thing...ask how soon after surgery they'll refer you

to physical therapy/rehab, and then how long you'll have to undergo

PT. That will give you a better idea as well of " real " recovery times.

Hi ,

That is a really good idea. I always try to do the same thing. Good luck

with your appointment.

I think it depends on the doctor. My ortho gave me a three month list of do's

and don'ts. One of the don'ts was not to lift anything heavier than four to five

pounds for at least

six weeks.

Then he verbally reminded me, that even my teapot and coffee pot (when full),

would fit inside that criteria.
