I get trigger point (TrP) injections every three months (my doc is in Cincinnati and I am in Nashville), and I swear by them. (I do get them in my head and neck frequently!) You have to be very careful to get a good doc who knows what he's doing! Preferably well-versed in Travell Simons' technique. He used cortizone instead of prednasone b/c I had a reaction to this, Oh my goodness!! Neither cortisone nor prednisone should be used in TrP injections, !! The best substance for use in TrP injections is procaine in an isotonic saline without epinephrine. If you're allergic to procaine, then even a saline solution will work well enough to provide some pain relief! But please don't let them use coricosteroids or marcaine on you; they're like poison to your muscles!! > After the shots, I became very dizzy and had tight chest, hard to breath and I > felt very faint..... I almost called 911. Well I took two benadryl and it got > better. Definitely sounds like an allergic reaction to me!! But it is also very common in the use of corticosteroids. > But...... my neak is sooooo stiff and very numb, I have black/blue bruises > where each injection was given. Well to say rhe > least i feel Bad!!!! like I did right after my surgery.....What do you guys > think of this???? Are these normal symptoms???? I dont think I will get these > injections again.....lol.... It is normal to be a bit sore from TrP injections for approximately 48 hours afterwards, but not black-and-blue and in agony!! Did they advise you to drink plenty of water to flush out the toxins released when they did the injections? They should have! And use heat on the injection sites! Also, if you can, massage the injection areas to help break up the fascia (probably [in your case] hardened tissue surrounding the muscle). Something else to help release the toxins is adding sea salts and baking soda (one cup each) to a warm bath and soaking for 20 minutes. If you get dizzy before the 20 minutes is up, go ahead and get out as the soak has done its job! And do light stretches of the muscle in those areas, as your doctor allows. > Well sorry it turned out a little long winded. > Any in put is much appreciated I hope I was able to help a little. This was not a normal reaction to TrP injections at all. I may be able to find you a better doc in Atlanta, if you'd like to email me? My doc in Cinci knows of some in Atlanta who do TrP injections, and would do them correctly, using the correct injection solution!! They should have massaged the areas (myotherapy) afterwards and instructed you in stretching techniques. I'm very surprised to hear how sloppy they were!! TrP injections can be heavenly from the right hands!! Please feel free to write if you'd like. Sharon sharon-palmer@...
