Got Hewlett Packard Laptop with 17 inch screen.  Since I couldn't sign documents on the screen any more I bought a Bamboo pad to put my signature on incoming documents.  Hopefully this explains better. :)

Sorry, I got that part ... but I am unclear as to whether Gateway is out of business or not.  I think not as they are now owned by Acer.

Gateway sold off it's business division so folks like myself who were business class customers have been abandoned as the company they sold us to quickly went belly up and now Gateway refuses to do the ethical thing and help us anyway... But as for Gateway consumer level they are still very much in business although some have raised questions as to where or not their quality and service have fallen as of late. I wish they still were the Gateway we first signed up with, as their machines have held up pretty well for us. 's is still going strong like five years later, and our first good modern tower was purchased in May 2003 and is still plugging away as any extra useable work station in the back that we use for scanning and other daily tasks... So I'd say 8 years without any hardware issues but

one stripe down the monitor is pretty darn good, wouldn't you???

We have a gateway that we bought in 06. It's not great (it's a home pc). Ok for email. Loudest fan ever. I'd live for it to die so I have an excuse for something else, although now that we went ASP, we have an extra desktop at the office that we were using as a fax server. That will become our server when the big one dies since all we really need now is a way to tie the office computers together to the printer and Internet. Now that the big one doesn't have to crank on the database, we're hoping to eke out a few more years.

You could almost certainly replace the fan with another similar CFM fan with a better design and quieter output. We too have thought about that for our tower as well....

Why desktops are easier to maintain than laptops....yes, I use a laptop too at office, but have 3 PCs there for office staff to use and extra one...just in case....
