You're only 14, and how I wish I was 14 again. You have your whole life ahead of you. I know that you're not thinking about that right now, but you will get better, you will. Please get help from a professional. Talk to somebody. Take one day at a time. Be glad that you have your sister with you, that you share a room with.

My teenage years were very, very difficult. I didn't develop sound sensitivity until I was an adult, but I had other problems. In looking back now, it was just a short period of time.

If you don't feel comfortable telling your parents that you don't feel well and need help, then talk to a school counselor and they will refer you.

Think about your future. What is it that you would like to do? Try to make some plans for yourself.

There is therapy and medication. I am a big believer in medication. I know a lot of people aren't, but it really helped me look through things and think more logically and helped relax me.

So, we all care about you. Please get back to us and let us know how you are. We all care about you. I care about you.

Ok. I would suggest you really sit down with your parents and tell them flat out

that you need help... its NO game. Have a heart to heart with them. Keep calm

and tell them that you are really concerned. If they make you feel guilty for

something you cannot help, then they need the help too. Honestly, I think 4S is

a problem that families can benefit greatly from counseling together. Everyone

needs to understand what its like and how to help. Even if it is not 4S, it

could be sensory processing disorder or even something else. But if you are

sensitive to these things, and they trouble you greatly, then your parents

should listen to you. Ask them if you can see a doctor about it. I don't know

what your parents are like, but maybe you can tell them that there are lots of

people like you, and even parents on this website seeking help. Then they will

know its not a game.

Just remember... no matter how horrible you feel today, tomorrow is a new and

fresh day. A new beginning.

A lot of us has been where you are, na. It plain sucks, this is true - I

have definitely thought about killing myself to end the pain, or at the very

least deafening myself. You need to try every last thing on this Earth to see

if anything works for you. Have your mp3 player on all the time, talk to

everyone you can, see a psychologist (a therapist) if you have to. If you live

in Canada, seeing a psychiatrist is free, so it's just a matter of going to your

doctor!

There are ways out - my misophonia is so bad that it completely consumes me

sometimes. I hope you can make your way through this and come out the other

side. Teenage years are hard enough to have to pile this on top of it - but as

long as you keeping trying everything, you'll still have hope..and sometimes

that's enough to get you through it.

Take care,

na, I'm sure many in this group, including myself, have been in

your shoes. I'm sorry you are dealing with this.

Try not to beat yourself up for feeling like you need to be in your

own place by yourself. That's what we need to do to feel balanced

and be able to endure this condition. If I have to be around others,

I wear headphones, or I opt not to be around them, as a way to cope.

If you can't get away from sharing a room with your sister, start

wearing headphones to try and drown out the sounds, or listen to

brown noise. When I had to share a room with my sister when I was

little, my parents put up a divider in the middle of the room, so

one side was mine and the other hers. I don't know, but would

something like that help? Or be possible? I know it wouldn't help

with sounds, but might help with you not seeing the sounds being

made.

I have and still do deal with having strong emotional reactions to

dealing with my sound sensitivity, just had a very bad day the other

day that got me all depressed again and I wanted to die too. I saw a

therapist for a while and she is still willing to see me, if I need

her, and suggest that you find someone like that too, if you can.

See what free options you have for your city or town. Crisis center

or hot line, if you aren't able to talk with your parents about

this.

I know where I live there is a place called White Bird:

http://whitebirdclinic.org/crisis.html

Your parents should know (and I'd hope would understand, mine did

about 50% of the time) that the noises are interfering with your

ability to do your school work. After I complained to my mom about

my sister snapping her gum all the time, she finally got her to stop

doing that around me.

All the best,

Randall

Hi na,

I have had this problem for forty years now. I also grew up sharing a room with

my brothers so I know how you are feeling. My brothers would torture me with the

trigger sounds. My point is that I got trough it and if I can you can! I only

found out that I wasn't the only person in the world to have this problema month

ago and that can really help. Wearing ear plugs and mp3 players can help

you.Take comfort that there are alot of people who have lived the life your

living and survived.

Hope this helps

I'm in Iowa so I don't know of any doctors there in Colorado, but you could

always (or have your parents) make phone calls to doctors around the area. Ask

them if they have experience with Sensory Processing Disorder or Misophonia. If

they don't, they may know someone who does. You may have to travel to a larger

city but it would be worth it. I bet you'd find someone in Denver. Good luck.
