Guest guest
Hi Anita, My daughter had this test done two years ago. I was misadvised by a local dr. that told me that she needed to be tested to meet her school requirements. Unlike vaccinations there is no exemption for this. So first, look at your state department of health website which should have information on whether this test is really required. In my case it was not but I only found out after it had been performed. (I was furious). In Texas where I live, this test was dropped in the late 80 or 90's. When I was told she needed this test, while at the local dr's office, I called my DAN in a panic. He told me to read the package insert to ensure that there was no thimerisol and there wasn't. He wasn't overly concerned about the test and my daughter had it performed. You have to go back a little while later to see if there is a reaction on the arm. Anyhow, my daughter had no reaction whatsoever to the test. The problem with this test, I found out later, is that there seems to be a high rate of false positives which then has doctors treating patients who do not have tb (I believe test reliability is why they dropped it). Very scary! Again, make sure that it is truly required. Maybe another dr can give you a medical exemption of some kind. I hope that this helps, Anne > > Hi, > > My ASD child needs to take a TB skin test called PPD (Purified Protein > Derivative). It involves an injection of the PPD. Is this safe?
