My eye doc wanted to put the plugs in...but I told him I wanted to try the

genteel gel for a little while first to see if that helps...if not then I

would consider the plugs...so, it may be in my future..but the genteel has

helped...actually, I am having the opposite problem of too much tearing

rather than dry and itchy since the weather change...my allergies have gone

crazy...usually do in the fall...so I would love to hear more Cary about the

plugs and what benefit they have to you...good luck...marge

Hi Marge

I am using Genteal but it isn't the gel, it is the moderate one. I just had

the plugs put in Tuesday, so I don't have a long term story yet, but I do

think they are helping. I am getting used to them, the left one is the one I

still feel sometimes. I guess it gets to where your body is used to it and

ignores them. So it's still kinda weird, but my eyes were really painful and I

think the pain is lessening little by little. I am still using the drops

several

times a day. I do worry when I need to rub my eyes a little that I will pop

the darn things out! I'm not sure how easy they are to dislodge.

So that's my little story, I'll keep you posted on my eyeball progress!!!

If it doesn't get more comfortable, Cary, there is hope since perhaps

you can try a different kind.

I had temporary plugs put in due to Sjogren's. They also felt like drums! They

itched so much, I actually (accidentally) itched one out! I really don't think

they made much of a difference for me, although if the dr. wants to try it

again, I'm game. He may have to give me something for the itching this time,

though! LOL!!!

I've been using both Systane drops and Genteel gel to help ease the dryness. As

long as I use them faithfully, I don't have as much of a problem with the

dryness. As soon as I start to think " they're feeling so much better; I don't

think I need the drops as often " , then I start having problems again. You'd

think I'd learn, but it's much easier to forget to use the drops when you are

feeling good. Consistancy, consistancy, consistancy!!! That reminds me, it's

time for my drops again....

Actually, I am adjusting to the plugs, and I do think they are helping to

keep a little moisture in my arid eyeballs. I do want to clarify, all kidding

aside, that getting the plugs inserted DID NOT HURT AT ALL. The Dr. numbed my

eyes, and I didn't even feel it. It also does not hurt to have them, it just

drives you crazy at first because you feel like there is this THING in your eye

that needs to come out. So you have to almost tie your hands down to leave

it alone! But there has been no pain with them whatsoever, and I got to

thinking that even tho I like to make these jokes to cope, I might be scaring

someone who could benefit from the plugs. So don't be scared, but maybe borrow

some

handcuffs?........... Cary

way in? Did you get two or four?

The plugs are tiny little things shoved into the " hole " at the inner corner

of the bottom eyelids. They don't stick out at all, although they kind of feel

like they do. The Dr. said he could do upper and lower, but due to gravity,

the lower help the most.

Thanks, Cary. I was just wondering since Vikki wrote that she

actually got one out! Guess she needs handcuffs, too. I think an RA-

Support store could have quite a few interesting items, LOL.
