basically, this is what happened on mon- Dr. Canady asked what i have been

having prob's with - which for me is #1) started getting these shooting pains

in my head prob for a year now... they are very hit/miss - would say maybe

get them once a mth? 2 max? they come on when i move my head - to quick like

in reaching over to get sometihing, or alot of times come on when i crank my

neck - either sitting reading with my head propped, then when i get up it

shooots, starting in my neck, going to top of head.. like a burning thing.

was concerned, cuz never had that type of thing before. then i was getting

just more head aches all the time. like heavy dull pressure headaches - that

would leave my head (more in the back) just pounding - almost like someone

had my head in a vice grip.... then last fall i was getting a numby tingly

type feeling down my left arm. eventually it went away. so thats all ive

gotten - regarding the list of symptoms for chiari. ( went to ent and he

ordered mri of brain and they found the chiari)... so i told her all this,

then she did a gammit of tests - touch your nose, bend your fingers, bend

your neck , bend your arm , push, blah blah... then sat down and flipped thru

my mri's. she said, yes, you have a chiari but i dont think whats happening

to you is a because of your chiari... GREAT (now at this point im thinking ,

humm, if i went back online and told all my listeners at wacm what she just

said they'd blast HER to the moon :) ) she said shes suspisious of

something in my neck, ie cervical discs, mentioned arthritic stuff....

basically she said that tingling down the arm is classic for neck/cervical

probs, that shes suspicious because my shooting pains/and alot of the

pressure pains come on from movement - ie) whipping head, cranking neck...

she said that with chiari symptoms they come on any time - movement or

stationery position... i said , well if you go in this direction and you come

up mty handed will you go after the chiari? and she said yes, but not to jump

ahead. said 'your worrying WAY to much about this..' told me its 'not

degenerative' okey, that threw me too cuz i read on line here that it is...

told me to ease up on worrying about the kids, (which of course she'd tell me

that - like you said - wait until theres SOMETHING to worry about) in fact,

thats what she said to me ' theres many other things you could be worrying

about...' something like that. so i asked if she was going to do the mri to

see if i had any srynixes, and she said no cuz shes not going in that

direction right now and she said she didnt feel i was a candidate anyway ..

talked about srynixes being not as common as in past due to people walking

around w/chairi w/symptoms but didnt know cuz no mri's... and as result more

notings of srynixes... whatever. then my hubby piped up and asked about the

flow test... she explained what it is and that they do use them but that

again, shes not going in that direction w/me right now so no i would not be

going in at this time for a cine mri. honestly, the woman is top notch,

highly regarded blah blah in nsg - she treats many chiari ped cases, and is

extreme into the type 2 chiari, from what ive heard. so i cant take her

lightly. i was told by another woman in michigan who's son had surgery from

this doc that the woman is to be trusted (her judgement is to be trusted) but

that she can seem a little 'blowoffish' when it comes to symptoms you may

mention... so its one of those good news! / good news? things where you walk

out with mom and hubby going 'man, that was the BEST news we could have hoped

for' and me standing there thinking, 'ya, but is she right?' know what i

mean? so time will tell. she didnt blow off the chiari. she noted that,

yup, you have one, but said 'listen, there are alot of people out there

walking around with tonsils hanging a little lower than they should, not

knowing it....' she just wasnt FREAKED out by the fact that i had one - and

was trying to impress that on me too... dont be so freaked by it... it may

NOT even be whats bothering you right now.... so she ordered an mri of the

cervical spine w/contrast, and a xray of the cervical spine. and then i see

her again after that. i go sat evening for the mri. (2 - boy im getting to be

a pro at this now, like - been there done that!)

so thats where im at. will know more after this next round. will keep you

informed!

hugs patty
