Guest guest
Hi everyone, This is a and I started taking the Diflucan 3 days ago. My burning is worse. For all of you who tried the yeast route and have taken oral antifungals for it, did your symptoms get worse before you got better? Dr. Crandall said that the worsening of symptoms at the start of antifungal treatment may be due to " yeast die-off " (Herxheimer's reaction) which is an allergic reaction to antigens or toxins released from killed yeasts. Have any of you experienced it? I think this is what is happenning to me because my constant burning is much more worse now? What do you guys think? Dr. Crandall also said because that I have had this constant burning for so long, almost one year, that it might take a month to 3 months to notice that I'm getting better. For those who have taken oral antifungals with success how long did it take for you to notice you were getting better or that the burning went away??? I'm burning sooooooooo bad right now!!!! But I think that's a good sign. Sincerely, a

Guest guest
Hi a, I too, experienced worsening of symptoms after being on Diflucan, 100 mgs. for a week. My symptoms were not burning...but EXTREME itching! I found it helpful to take sitz bath's in warm water with sea salt, (you can get this at a naturopathic store) 3-4 times a day for 15 minutes at a time. It really helped the area to heal. You can order a sitz bath from your local drugstore if they don't have one. It costs roughly about $10.00. It's WELL WORTH the time and the $$. It brought me the quickest relief! I also used Aveeno for dry/irritated skin. About 1/4 cup per sitz. It comes in a powder form in a packet. I only used about 1/3 of a packet at a time. Some gals I believe, didn't do well with Aveeno...but, it always helped me. At times, I would do Aveeno with the sea salt, (about 1/4 c sea salt also) When you are done, pat the area dry GENTLEY...or use a blow dryer on low heat. I too, have heard that this is a VERY common side-effect of yeast, (yeast die-off). I'm sure Robin can give you more information on this too. I had to take Diflucan 100 mgs. every day for 4 months, then 50 mgs. a day every day for two months. I have been yeast VV free now for 8 months, (after suffering for over two years with yeast-related VV). I will repost my story soon. I have not been able to give as much time as I would like to this list. I will try and jump in when I feel I may have something to offer. Keep taking the antifungals and be patient. If yeast is your problem...you very well may need long-term oral antifungals if nothing else has been able to " cure " you at this point. Be sure to get your liver function tests every two-three weeks. I was fine. The only side-effect I encountered in the time I was on Diflucan, was about three bouts of diarherria, (sp?? LOL!) in the six months I was on oral Diflucan. My onset was caused by a SEVERE case of THRUSH, brought on by a UTI and then the antibiotic BACTRIM prescribed for it. I will try and post my story SOON! I think I can cut and paste it from somewhere! LOL! GOOD LUCK! If I can be of any further help..feel free to write! Sometimes it takes me a few days to answer, but I will try my best to get back asap. Hugs, Carla

Guest guest
Hi Michele, My VV related symptoms were rawness...EXTREME rawness...burning, especially upon urination...or while I had my P....during/after intercourse, (hubby and I at one point went 10 months w/o ANY! My heart goes out to ALL that are in this same boat). I became so raw after the course of Cipro, that I actually lost the whole top layer of skin in the entire outer vestibule area and BLED! All of the things that I listed I believe, helped to rid me of the problems. Every once in a while, I notice, that I get slightly irritated below from either intercourse, my P or too tight clothing. It's never been anything that a thin coat of Vaseline doesn't help to heal overnight. I think my skin suffered such trauma, that it may take a VERY long time, if at all, before it's ever 100% again. I have not had ANY burning, bleeding, rawness, etc. for over 8 months now. I thought I may have had yeast again back in Feb., (do to itchiness...I NEVER had the discharge except once with my yeast problems) so I took three days of Diflucan, just to be sure. Hope I've helped answer your question! Hugs, Carla
Guest guest
Carla, Your story is so interesting to me. Are you completely free of symptoms from vulvodynia? Did you have just the burning or the pain on contact also. Any response would be appreciated. --- CBSTOPSMom@... wrote: > From: CBSTOPSMom@... > > Hi a, > > I too, experienced worsening of symptoms after being > on Diflucan, 100 mgs. > for a week.
