From what I have heard Muscle Spasms are pretty common after this Surgery. I

also got them after my lat Detethering.........however, for me, they did not

stop. For myself, I have found that stretching does not help, it can make it

worse. That is just me though, it might well be different for you and

others. I don't know, maybe there is a certain kind of Stretching you should

do to relieve the Spasms, maybe I just wasn't aware of it.

My Legs, especially one of them, often Spasms real hard for a bit after I

lay down.

My Left Hip hurt me after Surgery, not constantly. I really don't know what

it was caused by or if it was connected or just coincidence. It eventually

stopped. Putting a Pillow underneath my Knee helped.

I am sorry you got suprised by the Chiari. :( Here is some information for

you, if you are interested. There is a real good Email List for Chiari. To

Subscribe, send a Blank Email to:

chiari-subscribe They also have a Website:

http://www.wacma.com It is a fairly busy List, but worth it in my opinion.

Also, you may want to check out the Links to Chiari information on my Site:

http://www.mybookmarks.com/public/SB_Parents Then go under the Subject:

Arnold Chiari Malformation.

I don't think it goes away to the point where you can say you don't have

Chiari Malformation. But there are Cases in which a Detethering may relieve

atleast some Chiari Symptoms. This doesn't happen to everybody though.

Hope this helps.

.. I spoke with the PA and she told me yes the muscle spasms I was going

through are normal because at this time is when the nerves are just starting

to heal. She gave me some suggestions about gentle stretches I can do and

told me to lay flat at least 3 times a day for 30 minutes and just try to

relax. ( It must not be in my record that I have children) LOL She couldn't

give me a reason why my hip is hurting so bad or for the constant lower back

ache. Then I ask about my neck and arm. Here is what she told me. I do have

a syrinx (knew that) and a chiari (sp) I had no clue!!! I did know the first

nsg that I seen was looking for one but told me that there was nothing there

and my problems were from the tethered cord. She told me that they are

hoping that it will go away now that I have been detethered. Does that

happen?

Thanks Brande I will check these site out. Sorry to be so late getting back but

been kind of busy with my son and forgetting about my self. I am feeling it now

that he is better though. She did give me specifics on the stretching and it did

help some. With being sick I haven't had time to do stretching or laying

down so for the last two nights now that I can lay down the spasms have been

horrible so I would have to agree with her that I have just been pushing myself

to hard. She also told me putting the pillow under my knees to relieve the back

and hip pain is also why my muscle spasms are worse she said it strains the leg

muscles and it is best to lay flat. I was suppose to go for xrays of my hips

because my GP thinks it's just wear and tear from an uneven gait. I had to

cancel that because had to go get his blood pressure done and that is more

important right now. I also got a call to go pee in a cup for a recheck because

of a urinary track infection but haven't had time for that either. I really

don't think the med had a chance to work because the kidney is still burning. I

really need to just lie down so my body can take care of it . Thanks for the

info! Chris

When it rains, it pours! No wonder you haven't had any time to take care of

yourself with everything and more hitting at once. Sure glad your son is home &

doing better. Now that he is on the mend maybe you will all get a bit of some

well deserved rest this coming week. (Please don't ignore the UTI though!)

That's ok. I am sorry to hear what happened to your Son.......I hope he has

a speedy Recovery.

If you have a chance, would you mind explaining the specifics of the

Stretching?
