Guest guest
I'm not really around any nail biting, but nail picking, or finger picking triggers me. It's a visual trigger because there's really no sound involved. Hands and repetitive habits are 2 things that play strongly in my triggers; put them together and arghhhhh! The whispering sound is one of mine too. I used to think I was just upset because people where whispering and I couldn't hear what they were saying (feeling left out or something), but after learning about 4S I figured out that it was related. It's hard for people to understand, and it's hard for us when they don't understand. But know that we understand. Guest guest
Those are big issues for me, too. Always have been. My wife really stresses her "s's" and it makes my skin crawl. I struggle being able to explain to her that it's not about her, but I can't stand to listen to it. I also know that my left ear is more sensitive than my right, so I try to keep her on my right. We have got to find a way to deal with our sensitivity. It is real, it's not made up and we all suffer, yet also those we are in relationships with suffer. Guest guest
My dad has an overbite and whenever he says a word with an " s " in it he whistles it like that little gopher off of Winnie-the-Pooh. Of course he can't help it but it drives me completely crazy. I told my mom about this and how I never want to go on a family trip again because it is not enjoyable in the least because of this. She said that he can't help it. He was born that way. I feel so bad because my dad is such a great guy. I swear if he didn't make this stupid noise then we would have a great relationship. How sad is that? I know, I know, I should apply different strategies to accept the noise he makes, etc. He's the reason that I started seeing cognitive behavioural therapist earlier this year. When she asked me why I came for counselling I said, " I hate the sound of my dad's voice. " And then she learned about all the sounds that make me go bonkers. I am looking into getting a SPECT brain scan from one of the Amen Clinics in the USA in the hopes that they can find something going on in my brain that is not the norm. > > Those are big issues for me, too. Always have been. My wife really stresses > her " s's " and it makes my skin crawl. I struggle being able to explain to her > that it's not about her, but I can't stand to listen to it. > > I also know that my left ear is more sensitive than my right, so I try to keep > her on my right. > > > We have got to find a way to deal with our sensitivity. It is real, it's not > made up and we all suffer, yet also those we are in relationships with suffer. > > > > > > ________________________________ > > To: Soundsensitivity > Sent: Thu, November 11, 2010 6:14:53 PM > Subject: nail biting.. > >  > Nail biting really sets me off and I live in a house with someone who constantly > does it. my mom tells me to get over it. i feel like no one understands how > crazyy it makes me >.< and SSSS sounds, like when people whisper.. ugh >
