Are you trying to tell us those ripples we thought were muscles popping from everywhere on your body are actually fat clumps? Guest guest
Hey, Where can I find the BFL body fat formula? I don't think I have seen that on the BFL site. Thanks! Heidi > They must be lard. Guest guest
Heidi and for others as well. Here is the link for the BFL bodyfat calculator: http://www.bodyforlife.com/exercise/bfcalc.asp It is located under Exercise and then Training Tools from the home page. I do see wide variation in bodyfat percentages with the different methods. I actually keep a notebook containing all my measurements and calculations. I utilize six (YES 6!) different websites to keep track of my bodyfat. The biofitness.com usually comes in with the highest percentage. Just so you can see the variation I'll put the numbers up here for you all to see. These numbers come from the suite of measurements I did on March 27. Biofitness.com = 15.1% bf Health Central website = 14.0% bf About.com website = 12.0% bf Mybodycomp.com = 7.9% bf Pollock Method (utilizing a chart that came with my calipers) = 8.0% bf NOTE: this method is among the most commonly used by trainers with their 3-site caliper measurements. There are websites that will do this also. It is what the professional trainer I visited used. He also used a high quality professional set of calipers, probably costing hundreds of dollars. Body For Life webpage = 8.7% bf These seem to clump together with 3 sort of high and 3 much lower. I averaged them and came up with 10.9% bodyfat. I tend to use that one, however as we track our progress, the most important thing to remember is the changes over time. Any of these methods would be useful for tracking change that way. I agree with though that the biofitness bf% seems quite high. If I was going to use just one of the websites I think it would be BFL! Hope this helps. Bruce > > They must be lard. Guest guest
Well, I shoulda said it was fairly accurate for those of us who are not already buffed and hotties. I'm sure once I get into the mid- teens it won't be accurate for me either. I'm still in the mid-low 20s percentage wise, so it's close to my caliper measurements. Again, it's just a tool for measuring downward progress folks! Someone like who is competing obviously wants to get a much more accurate picture of BF%. also wouldn't use a Tanita bodyfat scale either. <grin> Betcha that would measure you higher than the Biofitness site. Cheers, Jen B. > Jen, I just did that bodyfat on the site you mentioned........said mine was 17.2%. Sheesh.........Also said it was " adjusted for 'my age'. I was wondering how they could give an even reasonably accurate assessment on only 3 measurements. They were only wrong by half from the BFL method. Guest guest
, Okay, Ms. silly! ...Obviously you would find " that " Tanita scale at Jen's home! I have another one at my house, too. In fact, Tanita makes a whole bunch of them! And they sell them all over the place. I think I picked up mine from: http://www.jpimall.com ...But I really don't remember. Mine cost ~$100 and the TBF% readings can vary by ~6.0%, depending on the time of day, the weather, bathroom activity, last meals, last beverage, etc., etc. My " TBF " scale actually is more consistent in measurements, regardless of time of day, varying only 0.1% to 0.3% in fat %. And that one only cost ~40 or less from BJ's Wholesale. ...Of course, it is consistently higher than my Tanita TBF for body fat readings, too. ...I guess that's why I liked paying so much more for the Tanita! I'm not sure any of the scales are accurate for very heavy or very lean bodies, but, they are convenient to check for the direction of your trends. ...AND to measure one's PROGRESS! Guest guest
, Hmmm... I have a tape measure and calipers, but where do I get a measuring ? Yes, a rare mood, indeed. -- Remember...
