Guest guest
Hi Could u send me a copy Ann/fl Subject: U of Iowa and Dr. Rich Tyler on misophonia? To: Soundsensitivity Date: Wednesday, February 9, 2011, 4:07 AM I wrote to Dr. Tyler to discover more about his classifications for hyperacusis and to mention misphonia and 4S this week. He wrote me back and stated 1) he does not believe in misophonia 2) he included a recent chapter in his 2009 book that out lines the types of hyperacusis. I have read this chapter before and read it again tonight, and it seems to refer to the classic type of hyperacusis as he mentions 'intense' sound for annoyance-hyperacusis such as vacuums, etc. He divides hyperacusis into loudness, fear. and annoyance categories which does make sense to me. Just not in relation to whatever it is that all of you have. I will try to copy the chapter here but I can also send to you any of you who are interested if you will email me at Oregon7@... I did write back and stated that whatever you call it, and as most of you know, I find that term misophonia a bit confusing to say the least, that there does indeed appear to be at least one category of sound-related issues that affect a number of people (you) and that there is a very characteristic pattern, etc., that would certainly inspire just about anyone to at least consider the possibilities and, perhaps, to help figure out what to do. Interestingly, he is advising sound therapy and counseling, along with hearing aids (with compression) for hyperacusis with hearing impairment (another sign that he does not seem to be aware of all of you with near perfect or perfect hearing. Dr. Tyler is a pretty nice guy, at least he has been nice to me over the years, however, if we can bring this condition to his awareness, he may also be in a good position to help us further our cause here.... He is a widely written author and tinnitus expert. Has the right initials after his name, etc., and all the connections.....if wishes were fishes, we all would have tails! I guess I cannot copy it here, so write to me and I will send it to you as an attachment. Dr J
