Hi all!

Ok. We've finished our third week on enzymes. continues

to thrive, and one of his therapists who hasn't been listening very well to what

we've been saying re: the enzymes ran into the room the other day and said, " Oh

my gosh. We were doing turn taking on some fine motor skills and

said, 'Ok, it's your turn' so naturally that for a minute I seriously forgot he

was autistic. " He still has a LONG way to go (it would be nice if he kept

his clothes on, for example!), but we are thrilled.

Concerns: It seems like is really going after the wheat foods

these days. Could he be craving them more? He's always been good at

finding and sneaking gluten, but it seems like it's increasing. We are now

discussing what to do when he does...I've been giving him extra enzymes

(sometimes 2 of each) and activated charcoal...I know the charcoal probably

cancels the enzymes, but I am FREAKING out. His progress still feels so

fragile, and I don't want to mess things up. I am ready to get rid of ALL

the gluten in the house so we don't have to go through this. I'd say he

gets charcoal once a day...

Less urgent concerns: the rash on his face that changes like a lava lamp

throughout the day. Sometimes red with or without bumps, sometimes blue

or black pencil eraser-sized dots underneath the skin around his eye

sockets. continues to eat a lot of non-foods like paper. His

hearing continues to be sensitive - he gets very upset and attacks his brother

when is crying - it's like someone is hurting him. His stools

are still very loose and change dramatically in color and texture. Texture

is still very SANDY. They still smell very bad.

ALSO: On Wednesday we have an appointment with Kaiser's (HMO) Metabolic

clinic. Does anyone have any great ideas re: what to ask them? We

planned to talk about the copper and vitamin A issues as well as the dietary

issues...Dan feels like it will be a waste of time, but I'd like to at least

try...If they're receptive, we may even get to share some information...

Just wanted to update you and get any feedback you might have. THANK

YOU!
