Guest guest
Avoid them whenever you can. I refused to have one becuse I've had other diagnostic radiation over the years and don't wish to further up my chances of radiation induced cancer. You have had an awful lot of radiation, and the younger the age at which we get it, the more likely the radiation itself will lead to cancer. It's cumulative. Colonoscopy is a wonderful tool for keeping track of what's going on in the colon. Doctors like the technology because it's precise, but you have to think of your future. I had an X-ray that showed some bronchitis and bronch when I had a bad cold, but even before then the pulm doc said (when pushed by me) that the treatment for bronch is the same whether or not one has a CT. Those helical multi-slice CT's have huge radiation doses. I'm not a doc but I've done a ton of reading. It is tough to stand against medical advice, and not always wise, so educate yourself and do what you think is right for your situation. It's different for everyone. Kay -------------- Original message -------------- I'm only 34 years old and have had 5 CT's and a few xrays since Sept. 2004. Additionally, I've had an atubular adenoma in my GI removed (could turn out later to be cancer if not removed) and my dad had colon cancer at a young age. Therefore, I'm concerned about over-radiation due to CT's. Just wondering how often you guys usually get CT's (every year, every 2 years, etc.) for bronch? Looking for last minute shopping deals? Guest guest
I was under the impression, that CT scans were safe. Thanks for letting me know that there is a risk of radiation posioning. Ive had a few of these in the past. Now iam concerned about damage they may have already done to my already compramised lungs. nyzki
