Guest guest
Have you been scanned to rule out a Chiari malformation? Kathy Vertigo??? Is it a Symptom of TC > Hey guys I have just realized something. It took 9 weeks but hey when my other symptoms before surgery were so bad you don't think of something you have been living with for 7 years. & years ago I had my first experience with Vertigo. It's something to do with your inner ear at least that is what I was told. I was put on motion sickness medicine and in a few weeks it settled down at least to an acceptible level I still couldn't watch a video game or tv or even my daughter on a merry go round. Otherwise my world started spinning. Over the last 2 years as my other symptoms of TC got worse so did the Vertigo. I had ask the neurologist about it and she said it wasn't connected. I am not so sure. It was so bad before surgery that just going from standing to sitting made the room tilt. Laying down had to be done very slowly and I had to look at a focal point with eyes wide open to keep things from spinning. Rolling from one side to another in bed was not done without the whole room spinning and me having to lift my head to make it stop. Now here is what has just struck me it is gone!!! I have had no trouble since surgery. Is it possible that my cord being tethered so tight set everything in my head off balance? The Docs words were as tight as a piano string. He didn't know how I was still walking. I know it felt like my brain was being pulled out of the back of my neck all the time . The tension was constant in the last year not even position would relieve the pulling up my spine. So my other question would be have any of you experienced Vertigo? > On another note can someone tell me what are some of the symptoms of spinal cord shock? I keep having strange pains up my spine. I was wondering if it is just things coming back to life? Thanks any input would help. Chris > >
Guest guest
before my surgery I couldn't walk a straight line my Vertigo was so bad. If I closed my eyes I would fall over. The room was always spinning. Since my surgery it has all gone....my world has stop spinning..hahah Vertigo??? Is it a Symptom of TC > Hey guys I have just realized something. Guest guest
I did have a scan from the neck down right before surgery. I think that is what they were looking for. They said the scans of my upper spine looked fine. Which to them meant that it was the tether causing all my problems. Surgery seems to have decreased my symptoms greatly. I haven't read about this condition what exactly is it? I know there are others on the list that suffer from it. Does tc cause this? Chris Vertigo??? Guest guest
Thanks , I was told this had nothing to do with the TC but I think they were wrong. I tell you I would walk down my hall and feel like I was on a tilting ship. I think we may have hit on another symptom of TC that the docs just don't realize. Chris Vertigo??? Guest guest
Brande, I had a cervical spine mri right before my surgery. My original problems were thought to be from there. They found the syrinx and immediately did a full mri of the rest of my spine because they thought the problem may be something in my neck but they never told me exactly what it was called. I think I get it now and although my lower half is better since surgery over the last few weeks my neck and shoulders and right arm are getting worse. The nsg group I am with has ten nsg's at first I went to see the one that specializes in the syrinx neck area problem but after looking at the MRI's he decided my problems were from the tethered cord not the syrinx or in my neck area but at that time I was more concentrating on what my left foot and leg were doing which wasn't good. Do you think I should call my nsg and speak with him about my neck symptoms? I don't have another appointment with him till November because when I was there three weeks ago The neck thing wasn't going on. I'm not having the headaches like before surgery but my neck and shoulders are real tight. Could this be part of the spinal cord shock? Or maybe it is something else and now that the tether is fixed it is rearing it's ugly head. Thanks Chris Arnold Chiari Malformation. I do not want to go out on a Limb and actually say that Tethered Cord does cause Chiari, but I will say that this is something they are looking into. We all know it does cause quite a bit of pull on Structures above, Tethered Cord that is.........but is that enough to cause an actual Chiari Malformation? I don't know for sure. Just some Information from Brande. I hope it helps. Me Nebraska, USA mymocha@... > I did have a scan from the neck down right before surgery. I think that is what they were looking for. Guest guest
They key is have you had a Brain MRI along with the Cervical one you had? You said you have had a Cervical MRI, and a Full Spine MRI, but you didn't mention the Brain. I didn't realize that you had a Syrinx, that sure could be a possible reason for your Symptoms. Also when asking about the results from these MRI's.........it might be a good idea to ask if your CSF Flow is in some way, maybe not completely, blocked. Especially in the Cervical and Brain views. Instead of just having them look for Chiari, as some of us have suggested. By asking them to look at the Flow it may make them see things differently. Yes, if these Symptoms are causing you problems, and you want to get a handle on what is going on, and you feel in your Heart that you know there is something wrong and something out there that can help you, then if I were you, I would definately bring it up to your Neurosurgeon. I really don't know what the Symptoms of Spinal Shock are. I just know you can have it after this Surgery. And yes, it could be something else. Hope this helps in some way.
