Hey ,

Does anyone else feel like they're in an AA meeting here sometimes? Hi, I'm Me and I'm an Alcholohic (4s'er)....cue us....Hi, Me.)

lol. oh well.

Welcome to the club!! I would suggest looking through the archives (although I can't actually explain how to do that. Anyone else know how?) b/c ocd and trigger sights and depression are very popular sidekicks to 4s. I have trigger sights and also all my other senses too b/c I think I have 4s under the umbrella of Sensory Integration Disorder. But I know you can find extensive e-mails on these subjects in the archives. You are most definitely not alone in any of those things.

Hi,

Just wanted to quickly introduce myself as I have only just found this group after stumbling upon it by accident. I have only just learnt of 4S, and cannot express what a relief it is to finally have a label for what I have and to know that I am not going mad and that it is an actual condition. I actually cried when I found this group! For as long as I can remember I have been plagued by what I know know to be trigger sounds and, as I am just realising, trigger sights. My main sound triggers are eating sounds (chewing, crunching, swallowing, slurping, swishing of liquid in mouth, clinking/scraping of cutlery on teeth), cleaning teeth, banging of cupboard doors, clanking of cutlery & crockery, clicking of heels, flip-flops, scuffing of shoes, keyboard and mouse tapping, finger tapping/clicking, hand clapping, whistling (this is a big one at the moment - I have just started at a new work place where a colleague whistles NON STOP and I feel

like I am going absolutely insane). Plus quite a few more!I also think I have trigger sights (I didn't even realise trigger sights existed but it makes a lot of sense!) - amongst others, sights like people chewing gum, eating with their mouth open, and a big one, tapping, twtiching and fidgeting (my family is full of twitchers so it gets pretty hard). Are these fairly common 'trigger sights'?One question - was wondering if anyone knows of a correlation between 4S and OCD and/or depression (I have suffered from both in the past). Would be curious to know.

I had the same reaction ! I was actually relieved to know that I wasn't the only one experiencing this. All of your triggers are my triggers - and the whistler/hummers - UGH! I actually considered whether I should have my hearing "removed" somehow! I'd rather not hear than live with the sounds and what they do to me. I keep hoping there's a reason for this and a magic pill or treatment will make me like everyone else. It's one thing to be annoyed by a sloppy eater or a gum chewer or popper, but it's entirely a different matter to become as enraged by those sounds as I get. Good luck to all of us in finding either a cure, or a way to cope. Just knowing all of you are out there is actually a huge help already!

They are in fact in the nightshade family. Tomato, potato, egglplant, and green

pepper have low levels of nicotine in them.

I think there are two kinds of visual triggers:

(1) the kind that mean a trigger sound is about to come (e.g. you see someone

getting gum out of their pocket, and you know that they will soon start chomping

on it);

(2) the kind that has no connection with trigger sounds - they are just really

annoying and distracting repetitive movements, like someone jiggling their leg

constantly.

The first kind are simple conditioned reflexes. The second kind look a bit like

annoyance at continual distraction: We seem to have difficulty " shutting off "

from many repetitive sights and sounds. Instead of getting used to them, we feel

like we keep getting interrupted by them.

Anyway, the visual triggers you mention are all like the first kind. Many of us,

and perhaps you as well, have visual triggers of the second kind too.

>

> yes, you have the visual too, i learned that in time, that i can't stand the

sight of the triggers either. even before it starts, someone taking the gum out

of their purse, the food 'about' to be eaten, the person that triggers you most

coming to the dinner table and then worse, watching them take that first bite,

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, just thinking about it.
