Hi Pam,

I ran into the same " variety " problem with the TotalGym. I have an

XL 3000.. My experience was the lack of a good lowerbody workout,

and sometimes an exercise at a certain level would be too easy, but

if I raised it one level it was too hard.

I got around this by getting the weightbar, and some freeweights.

Now I can fine tune the resistance on any exercise. The lowerbody

exercises were much improved as long as I use very good form. For

example, if I am doing squats, it helps to go down low, with the

knee making a greater than 90 degree angle with the glideboard. I

get a really nice burn in the quads when I do this with some weight

on the bar.

The only drawback is that you can only workout one leg at a time for

quads, and calves. If you have the arm/leg attachment you can do

hamstring curls for working the hams which is very effective.. and

you can do both legs at once.

I have only been into fitness for about 7 months. I'm not an expert

in any stretch of the imagination.. And for my fitness level, the

TotalGym is great for me.. I haven't outgrown it yet.. Perhaps

someday I will need something that is of higher impact.. Since I

workout alone, I don't have a spotter so free weights didn't work

for me. Plus, I like the safety of the TotalGym.

Hope this helps,

Fred
