Guest guest
Ops sorry I meant to say 2000 characters. Sent from my iPhone I had it in there along with dr johnson's name till I started editing down to 2000 words. Feel free to add it in. I'm all for it. It'll help the producers research itSent from my iPhone Thank you Heidi! Does anyone think we should also include the term 'misophonia' like Dr. Nagler suggested? He made some very valid points about getting research. > > Below is the submission link and the message I created to fit the 2000 character limit, which was very difficult, 2000 characters is short! Please submit it or something else similar keeping in mind our goal is for the submission to appeal to Oprah so she'll do a show about it attracting attention to get research, not just for each of us to tell our story, hence my emphasis on gum, girls and school. Of course, if accepted then people will tell their personal story but we need to appeal to her at first globally for her to want to air the issue. > > The more people submit the greater chance we have, so please go for it. > Thanks, > Heidi > > https://www.oprah.com/ownshow/plug_form.html?plug_id=216 > > 1000's of people worldwide have Selective Sound Sensitivity Syndrome ("4S"): a hypersensitivity to sounds causing acute negative emotional response, feelings of immense rage & disgust with fight-or-flight reactions. Triggers may include chewing, cracking, snapping gum, silverware scrapping, coughing, sniffling, pen & mouse clicking, neighbor's bass or TVs, dogs barking. More details at http://soundsensitivity.info/ & the yahoo discussion group "sound sensitivity." We’ve read that Oprah hates gum, a big trigger for many of us. We hope Oprah will be interested in bringing awareness to this condition as so many people who have it believe they are alone; sufferers tend to be very silent about it & try to hide it. Often we are ridiculed by our own friends & family, even tortured by the sounds after we divulge our secret. Health care providers often tell us it’s in our heads or we suffer anxiety. However, we know the condition is familial & fairly widespread. The onset usually occurs from 8 to 12 years old & tends to affect more girls than boys. The condition devastates lives, no longer able to concentrate in school (now that gum is not just allowed in the USA but encouraged) & no longer able to enjoy family meals or go anywhere the offending noises may be. Families suffer around the world attempting to discipline this condition out of their children; many children begin to perform poorly in school, loose their friends & want nothing more than to escape from everything. Untreated & alone, these feelings continue into adulthood. A show on this topic would change more lives than imaginable. This topic would be discussed by millions, suffers would be able to admit to it & seek support, health care providers would have a reason to look into the condition rather than labeling it anxiety, & the NIH would be given a terrific reason to research it: to understand the causes & find the cure. Please help all of us who are suffering literally everyday & every night. > > > Sent from my iPhone >
