Klebsiella pneumonia

My son is 3 and has had a history of GI issues. My DAN! doc told me

this showed up in his most recent stool tests. She said it was

resistant to the natural agents and has prescribed augmentin to get

rid of it along with keeping his probiotics going. Has anyone else

killed this beast successfully?

Thanks,

We've tackled this one with naturals. It takes time and if we don't persist we

find it comes

back. So we can control it, but maybe not eradicate it forever.

The key for our son has been caprylic acid. Here's how we did it -- not saying

it is the only

way, just describing so you have the ideas.

Purchased Capryl from Solaray [ http://tinyurl.com/yzstyb ]. You can find this

at health

food stores and online.

These caps are too large for dosing our 40 lb son. Opening up the caps and

mixing with

food or drink is out of the question because this stuff tastes *nasty* -- few

supplements

are so extreme in terms of gag reflex.

Instead we bought a capsule filler and Size 4 clear blanks from Capsuline [

http://

tinyurl.com/y9owbb ]. This video shows how it works [ http://tinyurl.com/y8p53e

].

We have the 60-blank filler. After placing the bottom blanks into the filler, we

open up 15

or 16 of the Capryl caps, spread and tamp until all of the ingredient is in the

new small

caps, then put the tops on.

As an extra step to eliminate possible taste issues, we wipe each capsule with a

soft dish

towel before putting it into a storage container.

We do a double batch, so end up with 120 small caps containing ~550 mg caprylic

acid.

From start to finish including cleanup this takes ~45 minutes.

In the morning at least 30 minutes before breakfast we give two caps buried in a

spoonful

of pear sauce (or apple, peach, plum -- we make our own from organic produce).

Our son

likes to " chase " it with a drink (not because of taste, but just so he never

feels like

something is stuck in his throat). Since we also give custom amino acids mixed

into a

drink 30 minutes before breakfast this works out well.

We also do this in the evening 30 minutes before dinner.

So 2x 550 mg twice daily = 2200 mg daily. The 120 caps will last 30 days.

Of course caprylic acid is going to wipe out a lot of good gut bugs too, so we

have been

very diligent about giving therapeutic doses of probiotics. At the tail end of

breakfast,

lunch, and dinner our son gets a Therbiotic Complete from Klaire [

http://tinyurl.com/

yjlsjw ] (we buy through our DAN!) and a packet of Threelac we by from National

Autism

Society [ http://tinyurl.com/yzb39e ].

Initially our son's K.P. scored 4+ on Doctor's Data fecal microbiology test.

After ~2 months

we got it to disappear. We paused for ~8 weeks and a different strain of

Klebsiella

(oxytoca) showed up at 4+. So currently we just keep giving the caprylic and

probiotics

(which he needs anyhow) and currently we have no dysbiotic flora, and beneficial

flora are

scoring 1+ to 4+.

So it takes a little investment and setup, but we've managed so far with just

these naturals.

Good luck -Ron

I found that Solgar is better for Caprylic Acid. Start slow and build.

They are large, but you can break them up and put them in veggie caps.
