Guest guest
I apologize for not answering sooner, I don't get on the computer much these days. My son was and still is on lots of supplements. By the time we tried the Valtrex, he was on a fairly big regime of supplements, Primal Defense made big differences on certain things, and he is still on it, in large doses. For our son (they are all so different!), no probiotic works as well as Primal Defense. He was on several different amino acids, and antioxidants. At the time before starting the Valtrex, we were doing things totally on our own, no guidance from a doctor. At that time, I could not find a doctor that knew more than me and I was not familiar with DAN doctors and had not read Dr. JM's book. We had him on the three types of Houston Enzymes, among many other things. No B12 injections (not sure if Neubrander was even using them then). What you parents need to keep remembering is that what helps these kids get well, or at least better is not going to be one thing. It is like a jigsaw puzzle, each piece is very important for getting them well. So many of these supplements need another supplement to make them work. And each kid is different in their needs and you have to keep trying. And sometimes you may think that your kid can do without a certain supplement since you did not see any improvements, but you have to remember that you are not always going to see any significant changes with the addition of certain supplements, but that does not mean that it is not helping the over all picture with these kids and their many blocked metabolic pathways on the inside. For our son, the Klair Vit A was also like a miracle. He had suffered chronic 'impetigo' or staph infection on his scalp from age 1 to age 5. This was very serious, at times he would have anywhere from 20 to 50 sores on his head, lymph nodes swollen up the back of his neck to the top of his head and felt like marbles had been implanted under his skin. When we started the Miscelized Vit. A drops, 5 drops a day, within 2 weeks, the impegito was gone. Apparently he had been so deficient in A that his immune system just could not cope and when that was added in, he finally was able to get the impetigo, or staph, into remission. Other things that we noticed with the Vit A added in was more complex sentences, and spontaneous hugs, lots of hugs! He became much more affectionate. We noticed at an earlier stage the addition of Acetyl Carnitine caused more complex language. When we finally found a doc to prescribe the Valtrex, although he was improving tremendously in those areas, the paranoia was extreme, the noise sensitivity was extreme, the repetitive questions was extreme, and he had many obsessions, EXTREME temper meltdowns. The valtrex made the paranoia go away almost overnight. Then as we continued to give all the supplements, sometimes as I learned more, I would add new ones, try different things, his other symptoms slowly faded away. He would also say the opposite of what he meant before the valtrex (this was also the very first symptom of significance at age 3 1/2). He would say he was full if he was hungry, call an apple an orange, say he was cold if he was hot, and wear the opposite of what he should, like a heavy coat in hot summer, or tank top and shorts in freezing weather, strange I know. I called it his reversals. He reversed everything! He would call a lock a key. With the addition of the Valtrex, this also faded away. Within a year of the Valtrex added in he was no longer paranoid, had no OCD, very little reversals, no more repetitive questions, meltdowns were far and few between and we were just totally blown away with amazement when he wanted to shoot some fireworks with his brothers on the 4th of July! He had been so noise sensitive that he would run and hide when i got the vacume out, could not stand to be at his brother's school functions where there was a PA system, you name it, he did not like noises. And when he was a baby, around age 8 months or so, he would cry frantically when I would vacume. I would have to hold him. Little did I know then that was the beginning of his first symptoms.. Then at age 5 yrs and 8 months, after buying Dr. JM's book and joining this list, Dr. JM did an evaluation of Zack's blood work at the DAN conference in Auburn, AL. With that info, we added more supplements and the B12 injections. It has been positive all the way since. We held him back one year in school. He did his kindergarden two years in a row. The first year he had some short term memory problems. After the second K year, the short term memory problems were gone. Now he is in first grade and is the best reader in his class!! He is an A student and has many friends, is very social. I know this is long, and many on this list have read our son's story. And many oldies on this list have offered much valuable information that has contributed to his getting well. So I am telling it again and I hope it gives the newbies on this list that might read it hope. There is always hope. And I hope to always be able to give that hope and encourage parents to never give up, never stop searching for what will help your unique child. -- In csb-autism-rx , susan brogdon wrote: > > . Thanks for the wonderful report. Did you try lots of probiotics and rotating antifungals without seeing much or any improvements, prior to trying the valtrex?
