Guest guest
, I spoke with the liver transplant coordinator at University Hospital in London, Ontario. She said that they had never done a live donor transplant on an adult but would be willing to try. I suggested that I didn't want to be their guinea pig!! I haven't any information on the transplant centre in Toronto but I will be asking my GI next week when I see him. Guest guest
Debbie when you spoke to London did you ask whether an acquaintance could be a live donor to an adult or child? Because when I talked to winnipeg they said you can only be a live donor for kidney or liver if I was a relative or close friend of 20 yrs. This is something I would really like to do. But I can not see how I could afford to go to one of the states where live strangers are allowed to donate. I am still searching for answers. I knew 3 babies that died waiting and they could have had a partial transplant if their family had been a match. I hate the thought of people dying when I could possibly help. Thanks again in Winnipeg
Guest guest
, No, I didn't ask about being a relative because it never crossed my mind that would be an issue. If you like, you can e-mail the liver transplant coordinator directly at Patsy.Burns@... . I found her to be very receptive to all sorts of questions. After my initial e-mail, she phoned me to further our discussions.
