Hi and welcome to the group! We have had a number of nursing

moms on the group in the past. Hopefully some of them will pipe up

with some specific pointers. I do know that nursing moms require an

additional 500 calories per day over the " norm " so you will probably

have to up your portion sizes somewhat. The best thing to do is pay

attention to your body and what your baby needs. Amazing how your

body will adjust to what the lil munchkin needs, isn't it?

Since BFL does not promote counting calories, you will need to

estimate the extra portions. Most women *tend* to eat around 200-

300 calories per meal (that's just the estimated amount based on the

average woman's portion sizes based on the palm/fist method). For

example, a meal consisting of 3/4 c. cottage cheese with an orange

is approximately 200 calories. So, you are looking at about an

additional 2 portions each of protein and carbs per day.

Your milk supply will diminish if you are not eating enough

calories, so like I already said, pay attention to your body and to

how much milk your baby is getting. You will do great! Keep us

updated on how you and your hubby are doing. :)

Thank you SOOOOOOOO much. These links are just the answers I was

looking for.

Just to let you know, the first two days, I was stringent on my

portions but I always felt hungry so I upped the amounts I ate just

to readjust. I feel fine today as yesterday's eating seem to make me

pretty happy!! I'm also eating nuts and trying to get in olive oil

when I can to up my fat intake.
