Guest guest
Harvey Mazur in Weston handles special needs people, but he is an optometrist, you would need an optomologist. Perhaps his office can suggest someone. Eileen

Guest guest
I took my TYPICAL son to Dr. Mazer yesterday for a standard eye exam after seeing his name on the list. He is on my insurance plan and I wanted to support an autism-friendly doctor. So.. he says my TYPICAL son needs vision therapy twice a week for six months. Seems strange...does anyone have experience with this doctor's vision therapy? Guest guest
Yes, last year I took my son to him and I was very skeptical about the whole thing. But I sat in on the exam and it all made sense to me....but I was still with some cynicism. But I did it , although I wasnt thrilled about doing one more therapy. My sons' visual acuity was fine. He had some problems with fixation and convergence and one other component of reading. I was looking for some BIG revelation but didnt really notice anything. But after 6 sessions ( 6 weeks) i did see that he was really doing well with copying from overhead or just copying from the tv, or a book. These were things that used to stress and overwhelm him . I happened to comment to the teacher about this , and she also had notice it and remarked that the only thing different was the Vision Therapy. And she was aboslutely right. Plus his fluency in reading really picked up around the same time. Well worth a try. I had told myself I wasnt going to continue with it after his re-evaluation but after seeing this, I decided it was the right thing to do. Guest guest
One other thing, I have been to the same Opthomologist for my own eye exams for the last 15 years and I was getting to the point where I notice I had occasional problems with my vision....my eye Dr told me eventually, if not soon, I would need a prism in my glasses. While my son was undergoing VT with Dr Mazer, I decided to discuss my own eye problem with him. I felt that it was possible I may have some convergence problem. I made and appt and Dr Mazer told me that my problem was that my vision was overcorrected! He changed my prescriptions and my visual problems have improved.
