Guest guest
I imagine this guy has more going on than just an issue with popcorn. Sure, I get ticked off and have thoughts of punching someone in the nose, but kill? No way. > > > > > http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/8337522/Man-shot-dead-fo\ r-eating-popcorn-too-loudly-during-Black-Swan.html > > > > Thank goodness I always bring a pair of earplugs to the movies and > > don't own a gun, or else this might be about me. > > > > > > >

Guest guest
I can tell you that you are not alone with that rage and what you say makes sense to me. Shirl To: Soundsensitivity Sent: Wed, 23 February, 2011 16:31:28Subject: Re: 4s related popcorn death? I saw The Black Swan and by the time it was over I wanted to shoot myself! Brilliant but disturbing. Seriously though, I have gotten so full of rage when people eat, snort, or dogs bark that I "feel" like killing. Even become suicidal sometimes. The degree of rage frightens me and leads me to conclude that it has to be coming from an irrational part of our minds. This reaction we have is not at all rational. An idea I have is that since it is known that we hear while in the womb, those sounds may have been disturbing to us or felt to be life threatening at the time. Maybe kept us from sleeping or just upsetting in some way. Our rational minds might not be developed enough to understand those stresses, and this may just be a restimulation of another time and mind set. Hence, the extreme irrational reaction. We can try to "talk" ourselves out of these irrational thoughts with CBT, but our minds still have primative and primal reactions to unconscious thought. Just something to think about. Again, I am just a lay thinker on the subject. My daughter just showed me her new earphones.(She has 4S too). They are put out by Sony, model MDR-ED12LP.. enhanced Earbud Headphones (RED). They are only $20.00 and are BY FAR the best noise canceling earplugs I have ever used. I couldn't even hear my own voice as I told her how great they were. Available through Amazon. I just bought 4 pair. Beats shooting some popcorn eating slob! Guest guest
, I understand your rage, I have felt like this too :-( Although I must admit, I'm much better than I use to be. Not sure why though as I didn't follow any special treatments... Anyway, I found it really interesting how you mentioned about the possibility of a fetus absorbing these sounds, etc. as I thought of the exact same thing yesterday! It was an idea that just popped in my head. But after thinking about it, I'm still not sure about that possibility. I do feel like the disorder is physiological (neurological) at it's root, with a whole slew of psychological issues that develop from it. We all so desperately try to cope with it that we develop all kinds of strange behaviors. But there is something about the fetus idea that is not making sense to me... Maybe we are all reincarnated aliens from a different planet with a different brain structure LOL This is why we are so rare ;-) Joking of course! lulu PS I'm new here since a few days > > > > > > > > > > > > > http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/8337522/Man-shot-dead-fo\ r-eating-popcorn-too-loudly-during-Black-Swan.html >  > Thank goodness I always bring a pair of earplugs to the movies and don't own a gun, or else this might be about me. >
Guest guest
ah geez, it gets worse! This story was apparently misreported in the Guardian. It was the person with sound sensitivity who was killed. The homicide victim complained that the other person was eating too loudly and he retaliated by shooting him. Guest guest
That is tragic, the article you linked to. This is why I don't go to the movie theater anymore. My senses get overloaded by all the sounds (people kicking the back of my seat) and now the visuals, because there is always video and audio playing between showings up on the screen now. No more calm time between showings. I can't enjoy the movie theater because the sound of everyone munching and slurping away is more intense than the movie. Oh well, I'm thankful for DVD and Netflix, at least these options give me control over how the sound reaches my ears. -Randall http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/8337522/Man-shot-dead-for-eating-popcorn-too-loudly-during-Black-Swan.html Thank goodness I always bring a pair of earplugs to the movies and don't own a gun, or else this might be about me. Guest guest
Hello, It's interesting, for lack of a better word, that I can't go to the movies because I can't stand hearing the silibance of the female actors in the movie and yet the popcorn eating does not effect me. Guest guest
I'm on the exact same page as far as rage and rationality, . I'm so grateful that I have the mental faculties to choose not to act on the deep, extreme, irrational rage that overcomes me. It always plays out in my head - if I walk past someone on the street chomping their gum with their mouth open, I immediately imagine myself swinging my metal water bottle into their face - I imagine their shock, the broken bones, it's extremely violent. The reaction is automatic - I, like just about everyone else here, know that, given our current understanding of the condition, I can't " train " myself to not experience those feelings. But it's certainly a sobering thought to wonder what it would be like if I didn't have the capability of distinguishing whether the reaction was appropriate or not. The unbearable feelings are always there, but I'm so glad that I have control over my actions. ~ > > > > > > > > > > > > > http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/8337522/Man-shot-dead-fo\ r-eating-popcorn-too-loudly-during-Black-Swan.html >  > Thank goodness I always bring a pair of earplugs to the movies and don't own a gun, or else this might be about me. >
