Guest guest
Thanks Dr. J! In #4, it only lets you choose one symptom for each category--is that correct? I would have liked to choose more than one for " frequent " and " sometimes " (those aren't the exact headings but I already finished and can't go back in). Take care, Cate > > Please take a moment to complete this 10 question survey. Guest guest
I agree with . For me its a much more basic primary reaction of agitation and intense need to get away (avoid), which is just not the same as anxiety or rage, these are more complicated feeling states that can arise out of the initial agitation and need to avoid. Guest guest
hmmm, well, I believe I am experiencing the opposite scenario from you ML, hence regards my 4s triggers. CBT helps me to reduce any secondary emotions arising out of my discomfort but nonetheless, I am still distracted and tense and overloaded on sensory level, so it's no wonder to me that those kind of secondary emotions arise. I am just speaking for myself here, everyone has their own unique experience and perspective of 4s, of course. From: Lawrence To: Soundsensitivity Sent: Sat, January 29, 2011 8:33:46 AMSubject: Re: Re: SURVEY LINK For me the feelings of agitation and need to flee are secondary to disgust, rage(anger), and fear(being out of control). Guest guest
I am still trying to figure this out. I too am overloaded ,distracted and tense on a sensory level. I really don't undertand how much of it is the physical sounds and how much of it is just my reaction to the people or dogs or things that cause the sounds that are the real problem. The sounds associated with people seem to bother me the most by far. I am directing some emotions( anger and fear mostly) towards them. Help me to understand what is really going on if you can. I have lived with this for 55 years and really don't understand it! ML Subject: Re: Re: SURVEY LINKTo: Soundsensitivity Date: Saturday, January 29, 2011, 5:52 AM I agree with . Guest guest
I wonder if agitation is a combination of anxiety and fear....I tried to use a few general terms recognized by the psychology profession in constructing that brief survey. Maybe I need another survey about taking surveys, haha. Be patient with me, we are all learning, and I feel that there is very useful information being gathered. This was just a gross measurement and we will have more very specific ones that can be used to publish and spread the word and attract researchers. Guest guest
>Greetings: Just a heads up. I did EEG Biofeedback and LENS neuro-bio-feedback. About 2 years weekly (or more) EEG and just about 10 sessions of LENS. It helped a lot with the hypervigilance but did nothing to ease the sensitivity itself. Lotsa' money to treat a physiological condition with psychology. EEG and LENS can help the brain become more elastic and able to cope . . . > > > > > > > > > Please take a moment to complete this 10 question survey. Guest guest
Hi ,I too spent a great deal of time in Scientology around 30 years ago. Even went as far as joining the Sea Organization if you are familiar with the "ruling" body within that organization. I found as you did that the technologies there were the most effective with dealing with many problems. Unfortunately I eventually realized that the group as a whole had a very negative impact on me! To this day however, the underlying tech was right on target and use much of it every day of my life. I would be interested to know more about your experiences there. I highly recommend that group members read the original Dianetics book for a possible insight into what they are experiencing in their lives now. BTW, I am a self-diagnosed Aspie and you may know that we have trouble with eye contact. Scientology greatly helped me with that issue as you might have guessed.JRSent from my iPad It sounds like you have a double wammy. What about swimming? Is is possible to strenghen the joints or is it a congenital weakness? Exercise helped me to stop drinking and taking meds. As well as diet. I almost never have depression but can get anxious in 4S type situations, but I feel somewhat more in control of myself and my life. Courses that I have taken at the Scientology church ( it is not my religion and I am not selling anything here) have helped me to feel more in control by being the cause not the effect of my environment. It just makes sense and they are ingeniously designed and even fun to do.All part of feeling in control which cuts down on the anxiety and depression that can come from feeling and being out of control with ones life. Again, these are just my thoughts and opinions. I was born anxious, with colic as a child and a very nervous nature. But these things have helped alleviate the symptoms and made life more bareable for me under the circumstances. Mike L. Guest guest
Hi , I am glad to here from someone that has experience with Scientology. I was very reluctant to mention it here, for fear of offending someone. But like I said, no one else seems to have understood the human mind like LRH to my knowledge and I have read a lot over the years on the subject. However I would never call myself an expert by any means. Just a lay person. I am familar with the Sea Org. Interesting group of very dedicated people to say the least. I got over a fear and discomfort with looking people in the eye. Just TR's mostly helped. Flattened it. I has helped me so much in my communication and relationships. That, and of course other skills. Do you think that it could help with 4S? I have yet to bring it up with anyone there. I live 10 minutes from the Las Vegas Org and go a few days a week. It is a big help and I am glad I found it, though late in life for me. Could you share why the Sea Org had a negative effect on your life. You can tell me personally if you want at my e-mail address if you prefer. Just curious. Thanks, Mike L. Guest guest
Thanks. Thankfully, I won't have to pay for any of this... but I will have to drive an hour each way to get to each appointment. Therefore, I am not giving it too long and if it hasn't helped, I'm stopping. Some would say that's not fair and that I am not giving it enough of a chance. However, I have over 15 chronic medical conditions and am bedridden 24/7 with the exception of doctor appointments. For me to leave the house and be gone for 3 or 4 hours takes a LOT out of me, and if it isn't going to help, I just can't keep putting my body through it. I plan to talk to the psychologist on Wednesday when I see him for the first time and being totally honest about that. He may say it isn't worth it to start something just to quit, or he may say " let's try it " . I just can't put my body through torture if it isn't going to help... but I'd love it if it DID do some good. > > > > > > > > > > Please take a moment to complete this 10 question survey. Guest guest
Thanks. Thankfully, I won't have to pay for any of this... but I will have to drive an hour each way to get to each appointment. Therefore, I am not giving it too long and if it hasn't helped, I'm stopping.
