Thanks for this question.  I checked our Solveras and it would be around 50 per month (20 minimum, plus 20 statement fee, plus another 10 fee).  The 20 minimum is waived if met with the transaction volume.  The rates are similar to other processors in terms of swipe/keyed rates, even though I was told this was already discounted for AAFP members.  There is no contract, so can cancel anytime. You have to buy a card swiper that goes with the computer; receipts generated by your computer printer or email.  Cost to purchase around $99 and there is a startup fee $200.

The other credit card processor I checked was Office Ally:  no 20 minimum, 20 subscription fee plus transaction costs. 3 year contract needed. Card swiper is around $70 dollars and no startup fee.  I keep asking if any additional fees they said these are all but I will keep checking.  They can import data to Practice Mate if you are using this which I am not.  Anyone used OA before and are there any hidden fees?

I'm switching to Intuit (without Quickbooks), too. I've also been totaling close to 10% when all fees are included. But I can't say that Intuit is going to save that much. They all quote these 2% numbers, but that doesn't begin to cover all the fees. When on the phone with the Intuit rep, I specifically asked whether there were any fees not covered in the various small-print locations on the website. He said no. By the time the conversation was done, we had identified at least 2 more fees.

accept credit cards  aka  ELect-mer free terminal for docs FABULOUS  great service When I got it it was lower than solveras but fees are elusive. Many IMPS use them I forget my fees but they seem reaonsable and I am happy with them . I can punch in nunbers if no card to swipe( for evisits)

Icannot compete with it  being an iphone app though  that's over and above!

Thuc,I wish NHSC would pay for IMP start-up, but we aren't there yet.  Think that is reasonable for you to do.  I don't now anything about Lyons.  Have you met people you'd be working with?

What would you do at the USPTO?  Look at medically related patent applications?Sharon

hi sharon, ive met the 2 docs i'll be working with.  they both seem very nice.  it's a town of 4,000 people and the community really like the 2 docs there.and yep, i think my background will put me in the category for medically related patent apps, from pharma to devices.  i think it would be good.

What use does USPTO have for physicians?

Annie

hi sharon :)

the ugly Loan monster & thoughts of potential financial instability has scared me off from starting right out of residency.

instead, here's my life plan :

work in Lyons, NY [ near rochester, ny ] for 2 years

because Lyons NY is rural, the NHSC will pay for my loans as long as i work there for 2 years

then i'll move to virginia to work for the US Patent & Trademark Office for 2 years [ where my parents work ]; occasional urgent care shifts on the side

after 2 years at the USPTO, they will let me work from home on Flex time

at that point i'll move to my final destination where i'll open a direct-pay practice

while i'm waiting for my patient base to grow, i'll have a full-time stable salary to pay for bills & such

as my practice grows, i'll cut back the USPTO to part-time and eventually quit

phew.

so that's my life plan.  if anyone sees any holes in this plan that i can't see, please let me know.  the saddest part for me is delaying my dream to open up a practice but it's the best financial decision for me right now.

still love IMP.

:)

Congratulations on what sounds like a very workable plan.  I have a feeling you are going to be very successful.

Annie
